Tax Accountant / CPA
Position Overview
We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Senior Tax Accountant (CPA) to handle complex tax compliance, planning, and advisory work. The ideal candidate will work with individuals, corporations, partnerships, and possibly trusts, ensuring accurate and timely filing, tax minimization, and compliance with federal, state, and local tax laws.
Key Responsibilities
Prepare federal, state, and local income tax returns for individuals, partnerships (Form K-1), S corporations, C corporations, and possibly trusts / estates
Conduct tax planning and research to optimize clients’ tax positions
Advise clients on tax implications of business decisions, corporate structure, retirement planning, etc.
Coordinate and review work of junior accountants / tax preparers
Monitor changes in tax regulations, interpret new legislation, and apply changes to client work
Interface with IRS or state tax authorities on audits, notices, examinations
Prepare and analyze tax provisions, deferred tax calculations, and book-to-tax adjustments
Assist in due diligence, mergers & acquisitions tax work
Assist with tax credits, incentives, and state & local tax matters
Maintain tax research library / resources; leverage software and tools
Review and ensure the accuracy and completeness of supporting documentation
Communicate with clients to gather tax information, explain tax positions, and provide guidance
Mentor, train, and supervise junior staff and review their work
Participate in firm initiatives, process improvements and special projects
Qualifications & Skills
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (Master’s preferred)
Licensed CPA (or in process)
Minimum 3 years of tax experience in public accounting or industry
Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local tax laws, regulations, and compliance
Experience with tax software (e.g. Lacerte, ProSystem FX, CCH Axcess, UltraTax, etc.)
Proficient with Excel (including advanced functions, pivot tables)
Excellent analytical, problem solving, and research skills
Strong interpersonal & communication skills; ability to explain complex tax matters to clients and non-tax professionals
Ability to manage multiple priorities, work under deadlines, and maintain high accuracy
Leadership / supervisory experience (for senior roles)
Membership / involvement in professional tax / accounting organizations is a plus
Compensation & Benefits
Base salary : $85,000 – $100,000, depending on experience
