About The Position

Job Title : Neuro ICU Registered Nurse

Profession : Registered Nurse

Hours per Shift : 12 hours (18 : 45 - 07 : 15)

Experience : Minimum of 2 years in Neuro ICU

License : Active nursing license required

Certifications : ACLS, BCLS, NIHSS

Must-Have :

Strong Neuro Critical Care background.

Minimum of 2 years of experience in Neuro ICU.

Experience managing stroke patients.

Ability to float as needed based on unit census.

Description :

This position is in a Neuro ICU unit.

The unit sees a variety of neuro-related diagnoses including strokes, craniotomies, and seizures.

Experience in neuro critical care is essential; general ICU experience is not sufficient.

Skills required include ventilator management, IV starts, interpretation and management of dysrhythmias, and central line care.

Candidates should be familiar with post-neurosurgery management and care of ventilated patients.

Knowledge of EVDs, ICP monitoring, and lumbar drain management is highly preferred.

The nurse-to-patient ratio is typically 2 : 1 but may flex to 3 : 1 in high census situations.

Average daily census is 11-12 patients.

The unit is also a comprehensive stroke center, so strong knowledge in stroke management is crucial.

All candidates must pass EKG testing prior to start.

Weekend shifts are required every other weekend.

Travelers will need to complete 24 hours of unit orientation.

The use of specific equipment such as EVDs, lumbar drains, and advanced monitoring devices is necessary.

Essential skills include infection prevention, administration of blood products, and the management of emergency medications.

Candidates must be able to work 2 out of 3 major holidays.

Total work hours should not exceed 60 hours per week or 5 consecutive days.

References from previous supervisors within the past 12 months are preferred.
