Maintenance Worker II
The City of Reedley invites you to apply for a Maintenance Worker II position in the Public Works Department, Streets Division. This position works under the immediate supervision of the Roads & Grounds Supervisor and is in the General Services Bargaining Unit (GSU) subject to the terms and conditions of employment as specified in the GSU Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) and the City's Personnel Policies & Procedures Manual.

This position is the full journey level in the Maintenance Worker class series. Positions at this level are distinguished from the Maintenance Worker I level by the performance of the full range of duties as assigned, working independently and exercising judgement and initiative. Positions at this level receive only occasional instruction or assistance as new or unusual situations arise, and are fully aware of the operating procedures and policies of the work unit.
Examples of important and essential duties may include, but are not limited to, the following :
- Perform semi-skilled and skilled manual work in the maintenance and repair of City streets; grade, scrape, and level surfaces in preparation for road paving; assist in the repair of curbs and gutters and sidewalks; and the paving of streets and alleys using pneumatic tools, asphalt rakes, and other hand tools.
- Fill, patch, crack seal, and remove and replace road surfaces material and debris; load, transport, install, and unload stones, gravel, dirt, supplies, and equipment as required; trim and / or remove trees as assigned.
- Install, repair, and clean storm drains, pipelines, catch basins, and storm drain grates.
- Assist with cleaning and maintaining storm water lift pump stations; paint pumps and pump houses; lubricate lift pumps.
- Break up concrete or asphalt, build and set forms, and mix and pour cement for curbs, gutters, sidewalks, and sidewalk ramps.
- Install and remove pavement marking and legends, paint parking stalls, crosswalks, curbs, and street lines.
- Install, create, and replace street signs, traffic signs, and mounting posts.
- Assist in the installation, maintenance, and repair of sewer systems.
- Remove and inspect manhole covers and manholes; mix, pour, and finish concrete to raise manholes to street surfaces; replace manhole covers as needed.
- Assist with installing and repairing mains, laterals, valves, and fittings; thread and fit pipe; perform soldering and torch cutting of pipe; read, replace, repair, and rebuild water meters; turn on and off main line valves, hydrants, and fire service lines; pressure test lines of new construction; exercise valves and hydrants.
- Place traffic control and warning signs; serve as a flagman; set up lighting and barricades.
- Operate chemical sprayer in assigned areas to abate weeds.
- Operate City-owned tools, equipment, vehicles, and rental equipment; operate heavy equipment including grader, loader, fork lift, backhoe, sewer rodder equipment, and skip loader, and skid steer.
- Perform preventative maintenance procedures and minor maintenance and adjustments on equipment used.
- Perform related duties and responsibilities as assigned.
