About the Role
We’re looking for a hands-on Structural Engineering Project Manager with extensive experience in structural steel connection design and coordination . This role is ideal for an engineer who enjoys diving into the technical details, solving real-world fabrication and erection challenges, and working directly with shop personnel, detailers, and contractors.
You’ll take ownership of projects from bid through final delivery; balancing technical design work with client communication, scheduling, and team management.

Key Responsibilities Technical Design & Review
- Perform and oversee the design and analysis of steel connections , including bolted and welded moment, shear, and bracing connections.
- Prepare and review connection sketches, design calculations, and RFI responses for accuracy, clarity, and compliance.
- Apply practical engineering judgment to balance code requirements, safety, and fabrication efficiency.
- Provide technical support to fabricators, detailers, and field crews throughout the project lifecycle.
- Review shop drawings and coordinate with detailing teams to ensure constructible and economical solutions.
Project Management
Manage multiple steel connection projects simultaneously—tracking schedules, budgets, and deliverables.Lead project kickoff meetings and maintain communication with clients and internal design teams.Anticipate challenges, coordinate revisions, and keep projects moving smoothly from design through approval.Ensure all work meets applicable AISC, AWS, and ASTM standards as well as client-specific requirements.Client & Team Coordination
Work closely with steel fabricators, detailers, and general contractors to resolve design issues quickly.Serve as the technical point of contact for connection engineering projects.Mentor and support junior engineers and checkers in developing practical connection design skills.Excellent communication, organizational, and teamwork skills.Qualifications
Education : Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (Master’s preferred).
Licensure : PE required (or ability to obtain within 6 months)
Experience :
8+ years of experience in structural engineering, with 5+ years focused on steel connection design and fabrication support.Demonstrated success managing multiple steel connection projects.Technical Proficiency :
Strong knowledge of AISC 360, AISC 341, AWS D1.1 , and relevant building codes.Proficiency in connection design software such as IDEA StatiCa, RISAConnection, Tekla Structures, or SDS / 2 .Comfortable with both analytical design and reviewing detailed fabrication drawings.Soft Skills :
Strong communicator who can translate technical information into clear, actionable direction.Hands-on problem solver who can make sound engineering decisions under tight deadlines.Team-oriented mindset with a focus on collaboration and continuous improvement.Must be able to work independently and as part of a team.Benefits
