St. Rose of Lima Catholic School seeks a passionate educator to teach Literature to students in grades 6–8. The ideal candidate inspires a love of reading, guides students in understanding great works of literature (classic and contemporary), and fosters thoughtful discussion and critical thinking within a faith-filled Catholic environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Teach part-time Literature classes for grades 6–8, following school and diocesan curriculum standards.
- Design engaging units around novels, short stories, drama, and poetry that promote comprehension, analysis, and appreciation of literature.
- Lead whole-class and small-group discussions that encourage interpretation, respectful debate, and connections between literature, Catholic values, and students’ lives.
- Incorporate literary analysis, vocabulary from texts, and reading-response activities.
- Assess student progress through projects, presentations, and written responses; maintain accurate grade and attendance records.
- Collaborate with colleagues to align instruction with broader middle-school goals.
- Communicate regularly with parents / guardians and administration.
- Model Catholic values and cultivate a classroom culture of respect, inclusion, and intellectual curiosity.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in English, Literature, Education, or a related field (required).Valid teaching license / certification (preferred; willingness to work toward certification considered).Experience teaching or leading literature discussions with middle-school students.Strong classroom-management and organizational skills.Commitment to Catholic education and to integrating faith and literature where appropriate.Schedule
