Responsibilities
Performs and maintains necessary repairs and installations in the area of steel fabrication and erection of bridges and structures.Performs concrete work for the construction / repair of bridges and structures.Performs carpentry duties related to bridges, buildings and structures.Cleans and prepares bridges, buildings, and structure surfaces for painting.Assists with or leads safety inspections on bridges and structures.Transfers and operates the full range of heavy equipment used by MnDOT.Determines proper traffic control layout in accordance with the Traffic Control Field Manual.Determines equipment, tools, materials and supplies needed to complete assignment.Maintains roadways for snow and ice control.Prepares and inspects winter equipment.Performs preseason snow route inspection and performs post storm cleanup.Performs winter stockpile setup and transfer of anti-icing and de-icing chemicals.Performs all work related to installing, repairing, maintaining, and removing snow fences, replacing mailboxes.Maintains documentation on snow and ice data for accurate reporting of inventory and resource management.Performs traffic control set-ups and / or provides notification to dispatch of disabled vehicles.Incumbent must be immediately accessible by phone and report to work within one hour of being called.Performs other duties as assigned.Minimum Qualifications
Must possess a Class B Commercial Driver's Permit with no Air Brake Restriction and Tanker Endorsement (written portion of the test only) and must obtain a Class A Commercial Driver's License with no Air Brake Restriction and Tanker Endorsement within 5 months of placement. MnDOT will provide on-the-job training to assist in taking the driving portion of the test to obtain a Class A CDL with no Airbrake Restriction.
Education / Experience : The level of experience to perform this job at the TGS level can be achieved with :
Two years of experience performing carpentry, concrete, or iron work; OR a combination of one or more of these activities.Examples of carpentry : building construction; building repairs; framing.Examples of concrete work : grading; bridge construction, repair, and maintenance; forming, placing and finishing concrete.Examples of iron work : structural steel erection; setting anchor bolts and inserts; gusset plate installation; placement of reinforcing steel or rebar; rebar replacement.Two-year technical trades training or degree (e.g., carpentry, concrete / masonry) or equivalent may substitute for one year of experience. Submit transcripts if education is used in lieu of work experience.Working knowledge of English to read, write, speak, and understand information; ability to communicate with employees and the public; ability to maintain routine logs and records.Note : The incumbent will be subject to drug and alcohol testing. New employees must pass a pre-placement drug test for substances including marijuana, cocaine, opiates, PCP, amphetamines, and acetyl morphine.

Previous MnDOT experience as a Laborer, Transportation Associate or Transportation GeneralistPhysical Requirements
The physical demands vary but typically include lifting up to 100 pounds, frequent lifting and / or carrying of objects up to 50 pounds, walking / standing on rough terrain, extensive manual labor, digging, shoveling, hauling, crawling, bending, pushing, pulling and climbing. May require exposure to weather elements.
Additional Requirements
All candidates must pass a prior employer reference check and a criminal history / background check. The background check may include Payroll (SEMA4) Records Check, Criminal History, Employment Reference, Education / Licensure, and Driver's License checks. Position contingent upon valid CDL, pre-employment drug test (DOT), and future random drug / alcohol testing in the FMCSA Clearinghouse.
