Adjunct - Ceramics

Work Schedule : Monday and Wednesdays 1 : 25 pm – 3 : 25 pm; 4 : 00 pm – 6 : 00 pm

$1,304 per credit hour of instruction.Course need is generally six credit hours per semester ($3,912 for one class; $7,824 for two classes).

GENERAL JOB SUMMARY :

Kirkwood Community College seeks a skilled and enthusiastic individual to join our team as an Adjunct Instructor in Ceramics beginning Spring 2026 . The successful candidate will have a strong knowledge base in the art discipline of ceramics, with familiarity in teaching techniques of handbuilding , wheel throwing , and various glaze decoration methods , as well as experience in firing electric , gas , raku , and wood kilns

Primary duties include instructing students in courses and communicating with department staff, students, and other faculty as necessary.

Adjunct faculty play a vital role in instruction. They are responsible for the coordination, planning, preparation, presentation, and evaluation of classroom instruction and related activities. Adjunct faculty bring a variety of professional backgrounds and experiences that enrich student learning. They must evaluate, record, and report student achievement and progress in accordance with college policies and procedures and participate in assessment of student learning within the discipline, department, and college.

DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES :

Instruct students in foundational concepts in ceramics.

Teach handbuilding methods including pinch, coil, and slab.

Teach basic wheel throwing techniques.

Instruct in various methods of glazing.

Communicate class material needs to faculty and staff.

Help load and unload kilns of assigned classwork.

Participate in departmental meetings when appropriate.

Collaborate with faculty on course syllabi and assessments.

Communicate regularly with department staff, students, and faculty.

Perform other related duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES WITH / WITHOUT REASONABLE ACCOMMODATION :

Position involves working in a classroom setting. Occasional (10-33%) sitting, pushing, pulling and grasping. Frequent (34-66%) reaching and viewing a computer and other types of close visual work. Constant (67-100%) standing, walking, repetitive motion, talking and hearing.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :

Completion of a Master’s degree with 12 graduate hours in the Art discipline of Ceramics .

Experience teaching introductory ceramics courses at the college level.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS, LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, OR REGISTRATIONS :

Community college teaching experience.

MFA in Art (Ceramics) .
