Overview
Purpose of the Position : Produce the best quality birds at the lowest cost possible while meeting Simmons' standards.
Essential Position Responsibilities
This is a Salary Exempt position.
- Directs and supervises production. Responsible for achieving production goals set forth in collaboration with senior leadership.
- Directs and coordinates hatchery activities of all shifts including hatching of eggs, sorting, vaccinations, quality checks, equipment maintenance, etc. Oversees first-line employees' schedules.
- Ensures product meets all quality requirements and that quality checks are conducted within the specified timeline. Monitors the facility to ensure compliance with the Animal Welfare audit at all times. Ensures environmental policies and sanitation procedures are followed. Responsible for the facility's hygiene, housekeeping, and appearance. Takes corrective action when needed. Ensures procedures are followed for testing and timely reporting.
- Responsible for costing efficiency. Plans, develops, and implements the yearly hatchery budget and ensures operations stay within the set budget. Manages supplies, utilities, and labor in a cost-efficient manner. Commits to continuous improvement to maximize efficiency and reduce costs. Allocates resources in line with Simmons cost structure.
- Overviews cross-functional department operations. Reviews shipping schedules and ensures orders are fulfilled and shipped according to schedule. Ensures preventive maintenance is conducted appropriately. Oversees operations of the maintenance team and ensures compliance with OSHA rules and regulations. Generates and creates internal reports to track performance, spending, trends, and changes within the facility.
- Promotes a safe work environment and ensures safety requirements meet policy and regulatory standards set forth by Simmons, OSHA, DOT, and government agencies.
- Manages employees : directs and supervises work activities, collaborates with Human Resources to screen, interview, and hire candidates; administers disciplinary actions and recommends performance improvement actions in collaboration with the HR Manager. Monitors performance and recommends compensation decisions based on guidelines. Fosters a favorable working relationship with all employees and promotes a cooperative and productive environment.
- Participates as a member of the team : supports development and implementation of team concepts, programs, and policies; coordinates work to ensure best practices; attends team meetings; identifies and addresses any gaps in cohesiveness with the team leader to achieve synergy.
- Familiar with Simmons operating systems (quality, security, office environment, company policies, LEAN) and understands the responsibility to maintain familiarity and communicate concerns and improvement ideas.
- Performs other duties as necessary in support of business objectives.
Qualifications
Technical Experience : Minimum 3 years experience in a Management or leadership role in a related field.Industry Experience : Preference for poultry or food processing organizations.Minimum Education : Bachelor of Science in Poultry Science / Animal Science or related agricultural field, or 4 years related work experience.Preferred Education : N / ATravel : Travels domestically to and from multiple facilities. Must have a valid driver's license and be able to travel on a daily basis. A company vehicle is assigned for this position.Physical Activities : Enters and locates information on a computer; visually verifies information.
