Mark Thomas is hiring an experienced Corporate Accountant to join the Accounting team! The Corporate Accountant is responsible for general and technical accounting functions to include the development and maintenance of accounting systems, general ledger, asset and liability records and other financial transactions, as well as the reporting and analyzing of financial and statistical data. This position uses advanced accounting concepts to resolve complex issues in creative and effective ways and works closely with Division leadership while supporting less experienced general accounting roles. RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Performs all accounting responsibilities in accordance with mandatory and necessary state and federal laws and regulations.
  • Prepares, analyzes, and reconciles general accounting reports, ledgers, journals, and schedules; monitors financial performance identifies and communicates trends and variances appropriately.
  • Maintains monthly schedules related to prepaid transactions, fixed assets, prepares month-end closing accrual entries, reconciles monthly vendor statements, completes monthly tax and unclaimed property reporting, and calendar year-end 1099 submissions.
  • Coordinates internal audit requests and manages various external audits; supports audit efforts.
  • Analyzes and reconciles general ledger including asset, liability, and profit-and-loss accounts.
  • Responsible for vendor management - performs new vendor setup, collects proper tax forms and ACH / banking information and ensuring accuracy; maintains vendor profiles.
  • Maintains and updates 1099 contractors' files on a regular basis; prepares and distributes 1099 and other related tax forms such as sales tax, use tax, federal taxes, property taxes, political contributions tax forms 461 and 496, etc.
  • Ensures the timely and accurate filing of local business and property taxes, assists and supports division management in annual tax planning and preparation, responsible for tax payments.
  • Supports finance and executive management in creating spreadsheets, providing audit data, and preparing special reports as assigned.
  • Applies specialized accounting concepts to perform technical analyses to understand past performance and determine present and future performance and / or resource allocations.
  • Applies Company policies and procedures to resolve a variety of issues at the highest levels of complexity, ensuring internal control objectives are met.
  • Evaluates, interprets, and summarizes financial reports and accounting records.
  • Completes regulatory findings, income and expense report filing and general ledger closing cycle.
  • Provides training, support, and mentorship to the accounting team members and new employees as appropriate; maintains accessibility and availability to provide assistance.
  • Acts as a cooperative team member when needed - processes project billings, assists with special projects, provides back-up support and review for Accounting-related duties, etc.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting required.
  • At least 5-8+ years of experience working with generally accepted accounting principles and accounting software; experience working in a professional services environment preferred.
  • Knowledge and experience working with Deltek Vantagepoint required.
  • Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR) preferred.
  • Strong technical accounting background, with experience in accounts receivable, accounts payable, financial reporting, expense reporting, and general ledger.
  • Strong math and database skills; superior Excel skills.
  • Thorough knowledge of financial statement preparation, including consolidations and other advanced topics.
  • Thorough knowledge of financial analysis techniques.
  • Strong analytical skills needed to structure and conduct analyses and to evaluate and develop logical solutions to accounting issues.
  • Strong organizational skills; demonstrated ability to meet deadlines.
  • Strong communication skills, capable of articulating financial discrepancies and collaborating with cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to develop and maintain professional relationships with a variety of unique and diverse people and personalities.
