OBJECTIVE : This position leads and advances the Pittsburgh Regional Alliances proactive business development, attraction, retention, and expansion initiatives, with a particular focus on strategic cluster growth and cross-sector collaboration. The Senior Director provides strategic oversight, stakeholder alignment, and measurable outcomes that strengthen the regions competitiveness in emerging industries.
Requirements :
- Lead the development and execution of strategic plans to grow and expand the emerging clusters (energy, advanced manufacturing, life sciences, robotics & AI) in the Pittsburgh region.
- Serve as the primary liaison and thought leader between Collaborate public, private, and institutional stakeholders to align cluster goals with broader regional economic development strategies.
- Direct the development and implementation of performance metrics and KPIs to evaluate impact and guide continuous improvement.
- Represent the organization in high-level discussions with industry leaders and companies within the energy, advanced manufacturing, life sciences, and robotics & technology sectors to understand their needs, challenges, and opportunities.
- Facilitate collaboration between industry stakeholders, higher education and research institutions, and startups to drive innovation and commercialization.
- Oversee outreach and recruitment strategies within targeted sectors to key industry leaders for securing business opportunities.
- Lead and oversee the development of a sophisticated, targeted outbound recruitment program, ensuring the effective integration of domain-specific business intelligence and deep industry expertise to proactively connect with prospects to understand their direct business needs.
- Lead and represent the organization in outbound recruitment efforts, including but not limited to : national and international tradeshows, conferences, meetings, and events.
- Direct and oversee the development of a targeted business retention and expansion program to drive in-market growth within identified sectors.
- Establish and manage key performance indicators (KPIs) and tracking mechanisms to monitor the progress and impact of cluster development efforts.
- Develop and deliver regular reports and presentations for stakeholders, funders, and the board of directors, providing strategic insights into achievements, challenges, and opportunities.
- Stay informed about industry trends, market dynamics, and regulatory changes that may impact the cluster's growth trajectory.
SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
Expertise : Demonstrated education and knowledge demonstrate deep expertise in applied social science research. Strong grasp of research methodologies and tools. Familiarity with macro and micro economic and community development issues.
Experience : 10-12 years of progressively responsible experience within key growth sectors and / or market research, economic analysis, real estate research, or economic development required.
Skills : Strong proficiency in data analytics, including relevant tools and software. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Excellent organizational, planning, problem-solving, and project management skills.
