Position Summary
The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) – Facility drives key strategic initiatives for a facility or multiple facilities, providing oversight of all financial operations and operational performance.
Essential Functions
- Administer general accounting, patient business services, including third party reimbursement, financial and statistical reporting functions in accordance with established policies and accounting procedures.
- Provide formal or informal direction in data processing, distributed systems, material management and medical records functions.
- Train subordinates and monitor performance to ensure fiscal responsibilities are fulfilled.
- Assist the CEO in developing long‑ and short‑range hospital operations plans, including service demand analyses, resource availability analyses, and cost‑benefit analyses for capital and staff expansions.
- Develop long‑ and short‑range operational and capital budgets supported by hospital plans and objectives.
- Prepare cash flow analyses, budget variance analyses, and make recommendations on budget modifications.
- Assist managers in developing departmental budgets and the budget process.
- Monitor, interpret, and analyze hospital financial performance relative to plans and objectives.
- Identify and report undesirable trends and potential business opportunities and make recommendations for action.
- Direct preparation of internal financial reports, including work papers for the annual financial audit.
- Assure timely and accurate preparation of financial reports that reflect the financial position of the hospital.
- Lead efforts to reduce operating costs and increase revenues based on market trends, financial reports, and operating procedures.
- Ensure timely submission of all financial data associated reports required by government and regulatory agencies including payroll tax reports, public disclosure reports and third‑party payer cost reports.
- Attend regularly and perform other duties as assigned.

Position serves internal co‑workers and external customers, clients, patients, contractors, and vendors. Handles sensitive or confidential information. Exhibits comprehensive understanding of healthcare regulatory compliance (e.g., HIPAA) and applies policies and procedures. Knowledge of business office standards, recommended practices, GAAP, SEC regulations and state regulatory environments.
Supervisory Responsibilities
Manage work of others : planning, assigning, scheduling, reviewing, ensuring quality standards, hiring, terminating, training, developing, reviewing performance, and administering corrective action for staff.
Qualifications
Education : Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance; Master’s Degree preferred.
Experience : Minimum 15 years’ experience, including 3 years at the CFO level in an acute‑care hospital.
Certifications : Certified Public Accountant (CPA) preferred.
Licenses : CPA license preferred.

Work Environment and Travel Requirements
Office environment well lit, ventilated, climate controlled. Hospital environment exposure to hazards : bloodborne pathogens, contagious illnesses, toxic chemicals, biohazardous materials. Typical office / nurse noise level. Moderate overnight travel (up to 30%) by land and / or air.
