POSITION SUMMARY :

Perform technical and supervisory duties related to the selection, orientation, scheduling, and evaluation of pharmacy technicians.

POSITION EDUCATION / QUALIFICATIONS :

• High school diploma or equivalent required
• Preferred Graduate of an ASHP-accredited pharmacy technician training program
• Registered with state of Texas as Pharmacy Technician required
• ACPE IV Certification
• Must be able to be sensitive to cultural and bilingual issues.
• Good written and verbal communication skills required.
• Ability to read, write and speak English
• Ability to communicate clearly and concisely with all levels of nursing, administration, and physicians
• Prefer hospital experience

JOB KNOWLEDGE / EXPERIENCE :

Responsibilities :

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES :

o Creating and implementing training material / program for sterile compounding personnel and assigned sterile compounding trainers

o Evaluating sterile compounding personnel in competency and documenting deficiencies and schedules for improvement

o Ensuring sterile compounding standard operating procedures are implemented and meet compliance regulatory standards, and evaluating the need for new processes and procedures.

o Responsible for maintaining personnel sterile compounding files for each employee and ensuring proper documentation of trainings, competences, and policies and procedures.

o Evaluating personnel follow proper personal hygiene and garbing prior to performing sterile compounding

o Ensuring the sterile compounding areas meet regulatory requirements of facilities and engineering controls; including quality assurance and control with microbiological air and surface monitoring

o Ensuring certification and recertification records of the sterile compounding area meet regulatory compliance

o Ensuring sterile compounding records (i.e., standard operating procedures; competencies; facilities, engineering, and quality control; certifications) are readily available

o Providing pharmacy development specific to sterile compounding and ensure necessary safety and quality control in the delivery of sterile compounded products

B. Working Conditions : The individual spends over 95% of his / her time in an air-conditioned environment with varying exposures to noise. There is protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes. The position does have low exposure to malodorous, infectious body fluids from patients and some minimal exposure to noxious smells from cleansing agents.

C. Occupational Exposure : This position has minimal to no exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues and is an OSHA Category III (although situations can be imagined or hypothesized under which anyone, anywhere, might encounter potential exposure to body fluids). Person who performs these duties are not called upon as part of their employment to perform or assist in emergency medical care or first aid or to be potentially exposed in some other way.
