Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA)
The Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) is responsible for providing quality patient care under the direction of a Registered Nurse. S / he assists patients with Activities of Daily Living, and nurses with routine treatments and procedures, ensuring patient privacy, dignity and well-being in a safe, secure environment. S / he responds to patient requests and reports all pertinent information to the Registered Nurse. Additionally, the CNA may be floated to other hospital areas as a resource, as directed by hospital leadership or the House Supervisor. When floated, they are expected to follow the guidance of the Charge Nurse or RN in the assigned department and maintain the same high standards of care and safety.
Essential Functions
- Assists with patient admissions, including weighing, dressing and orientation.
- Prepares patients for various procedures, as directed by the RN.
- Assists with routine care of patients and performs basic nursing care and treatment procedures, as directed by the RN, including bathing, routine checks, assisting with Activities of Daily Living, taking vital signs, and performing Accu-checks.
- Completes required documentation of vital signs, treatment and procedures in a thorough and timely manner.
- Assists with patient transfers and ambulation.
- Assists with patient discharge, including packing patient belongings and stripping rooms for cleaning.
- Cleans and stores equipment, changes linens, and maintains and stocks work areas.
- Answers the phone and responds to nurse call system.
- Communicates patient issues and changes in condition, including abnormal vital signs and Accu-checks, to the nurse in a timely manner.
- Attends department meetings.
- The CNA will be required to train, educate, supervise and provide feedback regarding students from outside entities or organizations with whom GRMC has an established Affiliation Agreement.
- Performs additional duties as assigned.
