Overview
We're seeking a Senior Controls Engineer to lead the design, development, and implementation of complex automation and controls projects. This role is ideal for a self-motivated engineer who thrives on technical challenges, enjoys mentoring others, and is passionate about delivering high-quality engineering solutions.
You'll work closely with cross-functional teams to design electrical systems, develop PLC / HMI programs, and support the commissioning of advanced machinery-helping drive our Lean culture and continuous improvement initiatives. This is an on-site position at our state of the art facility in Poughkeepsie, NY.
Responsibilities
What You'll Do
- Lead and execute electrical and controls design for automation projects with minimal supervision.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to other Controls Engineers.
- Design electrical schematics, enclosure layouts, and related documentation.
- Develop and implement PLC, HMI, and robotic programs for automated systems.
- Collaborate with Mechanical Engineers to meet project requirements and timelines.
- Support manufacturing assembly, installation, and site acceptance testing (SAT).
- Maintain project schedules and status in MPI's information system (Epicor Projects).
- Ensure compliance with ANSI, OSHA, and MPI safety standards.
- Participate in daily Lean meetings and contribute to continuous improvement efforts.
Qualifications
What You'll Bring
Education : Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience).Experience : 6-10 years in electrical design and programming for capital equipment (mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems).Technical Skills :Strong background in PLC programming (Omron, Allen-Bradley, Siemens preferred).Experience with HMI software (Indusoft preferred).Experience with robotic programming (ABB, Fanuc a plus).Proficiency in CAD for schematics and Microsoft Office Suite.Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.Ability to evaluate processes for efficiency and waste reduction.Willingness to travel occasionally for customer-site commissioning.Company Website
