Position Title : PHYSICAL THERAPIST

Department : Early Learning

Location : Homebase : Antkwak Early Learning Center (Hillsboro); Additional four-county regional areas as assigned, including Clatsop County

Reports To : Program Coordinator / Principal

FLSA Status : Exempt

Bargaining Unit : NWEA

Salary : Licensed Salary Schedule

FTE : 0.30

Work Days : 192

PART TIME - up to 4 hours per day

GENERAL DESCRIPTION :

In alignment with the NWRESD's mission statement, this position evaluates and administers physical therapy services to students with physical limitations. Assists students in achieving physical and functional independent access to the educational system within their physical limitations.

QUALIFICATIONS : Knowledge, Skills, Abilities Required :

  • Graduation from a CAPTE accredited Physical Therapy education program or equivalent
  • Licenses / certificates as determined by the ESD, including state license to practice physical therapy in the state of Oregon.
  • Experience and / or ability to supervise licensed physical therapist assistants
  • 4. Valid driver's license, vehicle available for use on the job, and accompanying automobile insurance.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES :

6. Maintain professional and technical knowledge by participating in professional development activities

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS include the following. Performs some or all of the following tasks. Other duties may be assigned.

A. Works as a team member with general education staff, families, and special education staff in support of the educational program.

B. Actively participates as a member of IEP / IFSP teams in planning goals and educational programs for individual students.

C. Provides professional input and expertise to the IEP / IFSP team in determining eligibility for special education and need for physical therapy as a related service, developing IEP or IFSP goals and objectives for each eligible student and recommends service levels.

D. Develops and implements a plan of care for individual students based on functional / developmental skill evaluations and other assessments.

E. Works to facilitate safety, access and participation in the educational environment for all students on the Physical Therapist's caseload via implementation of accommodations, modifi cations and training of school personnel.

F. Provides direct instruction in functional skills to assist the student and team in meeting IEP or IFSP goals; provides demonstration, training and coaching to staff and families.

G. Selects, fi ts and facilitates the use of equipment related to positioning or mobility. Provides family / staff training for safe use of therapeutic equipment.

H. Assists in maintaining a safe orthopedic equipment inventory through regular inspection, maintenance and reporting.

I. Makes equipment purchase recommendations to the Regional Inclusive Services equipment committee based on student needs.

J. May support students on fi eld trips or in Outdoor School participation.

K. Manages student behavior during therapy.

L. Communicates with other healthcare providers and specialists regarding student evaluations and programs.

M. Provides physical therapy support services to address and facilitate progress with student IEP / IFSP goals. Supervises LPTAs (Licensed Physical Therapist Assistants) assisting in this role in accordance with state PT license laws.

N. Proves consultation services to other professional and educational personnel regarding students' gross motor and functional abilities.

O. Trains and supervises assignments for LPTAs or other classifi ed staff.

P. May bill for Medicaid reimbursement.

Q. Provides staff training on proper lifting, positioning, transfers, etc., as needed.

R. May perform the duties of service coordination / case management

S. Maintains documentation including service logs and progress notes in accordance with PT board licensure rules and district timelines.

T. Mentors and supervises Physical Therapy practicum students.

U. Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
