Job description

Description

The Process Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, and optimizing the processes used to produce goods efficiently, safely, and at high quality. They look to optimize the processes by applying lean manufacturing methods while hands-on and tactically supports the production floor.

Duties & Responsibilities :

Production

  • Coordinates with Shift Supervisor the requirements needed in the department for the production plan.

Ensures that all equipment is operating according to the process parameters set by Corporate Standards.

  • Performs daily line checks, raw material verification, extrusion / thermoforming inspections, corrective adjustments, and preventive maintenance
  • Maximize extruder-thermoformer output while maintaining running standards.
  • Must have expert knowledge of material blends and how they relate to those on Production Work Order.
  • Coordinate with Shift Leads all information necessary to keep all extruders running to posted schedule.
  • Any other duties as assigned by the Operations Manager.
  • Must be licensed to operate a fork truck.
  • Raw Materials

  • Coordinate with Shift Lead and Production Coordinator to ensure materials needed for desired work order are being used properly.
  • Ensure all material has a proper location and is maintained in that location at all times.
  • Continuously look for ways to improve 1st pass yield, material usage and overall line reliability.
  • Must have expert knowledge of PET, Poly Propylene, and PLA materials.
  • Make certain the blenders are set to the production BOM blend standards
  • Equipment

  • Coordinate with Shift Leads and Operations Manager to ensure minimum downtime and efficient safe operation of equipment.
  • Perform regular inspections of Extrusion and Material Handling equipment to ensure the highest level of performance and repair if necessary.
  • Perform regular inspections of Extrusion, Thermoforming and Material Handling equipment to ensure the highest level of performance. Develop maintenance work orders for any identified deficiencies that cannot be corrected with process adjustments.
  • Quality

  • Ensures that production made on shift maintains or exceeds all quality standards as evaluated by : streaks, die lines, blemishes, gauge and size
  • Report any quality problems to Quality Control.
  • Address any Quality related issues that could cause downtime or excessive scrap.
  • Safety

  • Maintain a safe and clean environment on the extrusion-thermoforming lines and make sure that conditions are safe.
  • Perform a safety walkthrough on a daily basis to verify no imminent hazards exist.
  • Ensure good housekeeping is maintained at all times.
  • Ensure that guards are in place before startup of any equipment.
  • Develop / refine safety procedures around Extrusion- and Material Handling equipment to promote the highest levels of Safety.
  • Preventative Maintenance

  • Coordinate all PM and Maintenance activity with Operations and Maintenance departments.
  • Report any potential mechanical problems prior to a total breakdown, to minimize the impact on the production schedule and the damage to equipment.

    Other :

    Work in accordance with all company policies and procedures regarding employment, safety, quality, product safety and legality, security, and regulatory compliance as applicable.
