Position Summary
The Quality Assurance Lead ensures that all food safety policies and product quality standards are consistently met in the food manufacturing plant. This role reports directly to the Quality Assurance Manager and works closely with auditors, customers, third parties, and regulatory agencies to maintain compliance and continuous improvement in food safety and quality systems.
Key Responsibilities
Support production and supervisory staff in maintaining compliance with GMP and HACCP programs; report non-conformances to the QA Manager.
Verify that manufacturing processes and facilities meet quality, safety, and sanitation standards.
Conduct on-floor quality checks and internal audits to ensure compliance with FDA and company standards.
Oversee QA Technician training, including onboarding and annual programs.
Manage HACCP documentation, verification, and corrective actions; assist with SOP and specification updates.
Collect and send microbiological and chemical samples for testing; verify lab results for compliance.
Maintain up-to-date supplier and raw material records to ensure food safety standards are met.
Perform routine factory and warehouse audits, including pre-operational inspections.
Investigate non-conformances and ensure corrective actions (CAs) are implemented promptly.
Assist with customer complaint investigations and follow-up documentation.
Conduct trend analyses on quality and safety data; report findings to management.
Collaborate with Sanitation, Maintenance, and Production teams to verify corrective actions.
Support and update Safety Culture documentation and participate in related initiatives.
Work with the SQF Practitioner and serve as backup SQF Practitioner when needed.
Qualifications
Post-secondary education in Food Science, Chemistry, Public Health, Biology, or related field (preferred).
Solid understanding of food safety standards, GMP, and HACCP systems.
Prior leadership or QA experience in a food manufacturing or processing environment.
Excellent communication and organizational skills, with strong attention to detail.
Ability to manage multiple priorities and perform under pressure.
Computer literacy required (Microsoft Office or equivalent).
HACCP certification or equivalent experience preferred.
