Responsibilities shall include, but are not limited to the following :

  • Work independently or in a team to construct Scenic elements for productions.
  • Participate as a collaborative member of the build staff specializing in carpentry.
  • Complete tasks as assigned by Shop Supervisors or Shop Manager in an efficient and timely manner.
  • Maintain accurate build dimensions throughout the build process.
  • Use appropriate construction techniques that support the specific functionality of the scenic element.
  • Assist other shop departments as needed; including metal shop, paint, warehouse, transportation.
  • Participate in the Strike / Install operations of all scenic elements for productions.
  • Assist other Production Departments with setup, strike and restore of show equipment; including set, props, rigging, projections, lighting and sound.
  • Maintaining a safe working environment at all times by adhering to Hale Centre Theatre safety policies and procedures
  • Maintain a safe & clean work environment onstage, backstage, shop and storage areas for staff and performers alike.
  • Follow all pertinent Hale Centre Theatre policies and agreements.
  • Report all accidents and incidents immediately to Management .
  • Any other projects as assigned by the Scenic Shop Manager or Scenic Shop Supervisors.

QUALIFICATIONS / SKILLS :

  • Must be able to demonstrate a good working knowledge of finish carpentry and carpentry in general.
  • Must have a good working knowledge of all hand and power tools related to finish carpentry, and must be able to demonstrate the ability to use all such equipment in a reasonable and safe manner.
  • Must have basic skills in reading shop drawings.
  • Must be able to maintain tight dimensional tolerances.
  • Must be able to work weekdays and occasional weekends.
  • Experience in Theatrical Stage Carpentry is preferred.
  • An ability to work well in a team atmosphere.
  • Be comfortable working independently.
  • Possess strong desire to hone existing skills and a willingness to learn new ones.
  • Be highly resourceful and possess efficient problem solving and time management skills.
  • Demonstrate strong communication skills.
  • Successful candidates must be able to pass a drug screening prior to beginning work.
  • Hourly compensation commensurate with experience. Individual compensation packages are based on various factors unique to each candidate, including skill set, experience, and qualifications.
