The Utility Crew Member is responsible for maintaining, repairing, and servicing water distribution and sewer collection systems. This role involves hands-on work, operating equipment, and ensuring safe, efficient, and reliable utility services.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Repair, replace, and maintain water and sewer lines, services, valves, and related infrastructure.
- Install water and sewer taps, valves, and other components.
- Read and interpret utility plats and maps to identify and locate issues.
- Inspect, flush, and maintain main lines, manholes, and valves.
- Diagnose and respond to problems such as sewer backups, leaks, or main line breaks.
- Perform routine inspections of lift stations, water wells, and other utility systems.
- Turn services on or off, pull and reinstall meters, and re-read meters as needed.
- Accurately read and record meter data.
- Safely operate and maintain tools, vehicles, and equipment used in daily utility operations.
- Complete required service reports and documentation promptly and accurately.
- Locate underground utility lines in accordance with Mississippi 811 requirements.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Skills
Knowledge of basic plumbing, utility systems, and equipment operation.Ability to read and interpret maps, blueprints, and utility plats.Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities.Ability to work independently and as part of a team.Commitment to following all safety procedures and guidelines.Valid driver's license; CDL preferred or willingness to obtain.Work Environment
Work is primarily performed outdoors in a variety of weather conditions.Requires physical labor including lifting, bending, and entering confined spaces.May involve on-call or after-hours work to respond to utility emergencies.
