Executive Director
The American West Heritage Center (AWHC) is a non-profit, living history farm / museum, located in northern Utah's Cache Valley at the foot of the Wellsville Mountains. The AWHC is affiliated with Utah State University and operates under a special management agreement to fulfill its mission. As a non-profit foundation, the AWHC is a recipient of public money through various channels as part of its funding sources. The remaining revenue is generated via private foundational funding, private corporate funding, private individual funding, sponsorships, and programing operations. Due to the nature of the organization and the organization's relationship relative to the local community (both public and private), it is necessary that much care is taken in the stewardship associated with this position. It is expected that the Executive Director will lead the organization in such a way as to be able to perpetuate the organization's ability to continue to be a precious resource to the community it serves as well as its patrons for many years to come.
Responsibilities include :
- Reporting to the AWHC Foundation Board of Trustees
- Providing vision and leadership for the organization
- Facilitating collaboration with the management team
- Overseeing strategic and operational planning and implementation
- Engaging with Cache Valley Visitors Bureau, Cache County Council, Utah State University, and the greater Cache Valley communities
- Fiducially responsible for the management of existing capital and liquidity
- Working with management team to oversee permanent, seasonal, and volunteer staffing for programming and operations
- Oversight of Agricultural Operations for 300 acres of farm and equipment
Minimum qualifications include :
Bachelor's Degree or higher, in Business, Agribusiness, ManagementExperience with budgeting, finance, accountingFamiliarity with Excel and QuickBooks5-7 years managerial experienceDemonstrated experience in moving large organizations forward and obtaining relevant goals in program integrity, program development, people development, fiscal viabilityManagement of dynamic and complex operationsEffective communication skills both written and verbalDemonstrated ability to manage difficult, sensitive human resource and risk management situations effectivelyMust work at a high level of autonomyAbility to train, instruct, teach, and mentorDemonstrate ability to generate revenues and manage costs via operations, fund raising, grant writing, effective budgeting, and cost-control managementPreferred qualifications include :
Familiarity with The American West Heritage Center or other living history sitesMaster's degree, in Business, Agribusiness, or ManagementExperience with animal husbandry and agricultural production
