Specific Pathogen Free Production Specialist
Overview
Position in a Specific Pathogen Free production environment requiring strict bio-security protocols.
Responsibilities
- Comply with all bio-security policies and procedures of Valo BioMedia North America, LLC.
- Comply with and enforce all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) as detailed by Valo BioMedia North America, LLC.
- Implement flock husbandry programs including blood sampling, environmental swabbing, egg collection and grading, house cleaning and maintenance, and all husbandry functions following the SOPs.
- Monitor and report fly and beetle populations to the Farm Manager and apply pesticides as directed by Management.
- Clean and disinfect equipment, entry, lab, bath, cooler and mechanical rooms as detailed in SOPs and directed by the Farm Manager and / or Assistant Farm Manager.
- Monitor mechanical systems (air, feed, water, water disinfection, egg collection equipment) per SOPs; ensure flock has feed, water, correct positive pressure and light; notify management of any variation from norm as per SOPs.
- Properly collect and dispose of daily mortality and reject eggs; notify management of unusual bird behavior and / or elevated death loss immediately.
- Assist with housing new birds and depopulation of old flock as scheduled; conduct loadout of pullets when necessary.
- Maintain facility in a clean, bio-secure condition following prescribed procedures and disinfectants in SOPs.
- All other activities necessary for the successful operation of the Farm and Valo BioMedia North America, LLC.
Job Qualifications
Ability to adhere to strict bio-security rules; disinfection and frequent showering are mandatory for entering and exiting onto farms.Must not have contact with birds, reptiles, rodents, or swine during employment.No contact with any kind of bird species during employment.Must be able to perform hands-on work with live poultry (transfers, depletions, placements, and related tasks).Good oral and written communication skills; detail-oriented with solid record-keeping abilities.Ability to multi-task and be self-motivated; comfortable using handheld data collection technology (tablets, smartphones).Experience operating farm equipment ( loaders, forklifts, farm packers and trucks) is preferred but not required.Ability to identify and implement treatments for flock and individual bird health issues.Ability to work up to 7 days a week, including weekends and holidays.Ability to perform essential duties in a bio-secure, safe, and efficient manner; ability to work with hazardous chemicals (detergents, disinfectants).Ability to perform repetitive work involving standing, bending, twisting, and hand / wrist dexterity.Ability to lift / carry / push / pull up to 25 lbs regularly; occasionally up to 50 lbs or more.Work is required both indoors and outdoors with live animals; ability to work in hot or cold temperatures, dry / wet, dusty conditions, and sometimes loud environments.Must be legally authorized to work in the United States or have the ability to gain authorization.Must pass a background check and drug screen prior to employment.Must have a driver's license and be in good standing with the DOT.Seniorities and Employment Details
