Job Description
The Center for Academic Success and Enrichment (CASE) seeks an Academic Counselor to provide academic support to students from multiple academic cohorts, including online students in online programs and case management for student retention and success.
• Creates Academic Success Plans for students on academic warning and probation
• Meet with students 1:1 regarding study skills, test taking strategies, and time management
• Supports students returning from leaves of absence
• Develops and presents workshops on study skills and time management and related study strategies
• Maintains statistical data on progress and persistence of student caseload
• Participates in staff development and functions as a team member of the Student Affairs staff
• Track at-risk students’ progress electronically using learning management software and other data management software.
• Build relationships with faculty, staff, and academic leaders and serve as a resource for academic assistance and progression for students.
• Develop and curate engaging content for the department’s social media pages.
• Participates in outreach programs to the MCPHS University community
• Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
• Work occasional nights and weekends.
• Assist with Open House, Accepted Students Day, Orientation, and Commencement.
• Participate in retreats and professional development within the Division of Student Achievement and Success.
• Periodic travel between campuses is required
• Contributes to sustaining and enhancing an inclusive working and learning environment.
Requirements
Required:
• A Master’s degree in Education, Educational Psychology, Counseling or a related field
• Knowledge of study skills, learning styles, and the learning process
• Ability to establish and maintain harmonious working relationships with members of the college community
• Strong oral and written communication skills
• Effective time management skills and the ability to set priorities
• Strong interpersonal, organizational and computer skills
• Ability to work effectively in a dynamic and growth-oriented environment
• Demonstrated ability to work individually and as a member of a team
• Demonstrated commitment to valuing diversity and contributing to an inclusive working and learning environment
Preferred:
• Experience working with adult learners, graduate or professional populations preferred.
Physical Requirements:
• Typical office or administrative working conditions. Staff is not exposed to adverse environmental conditions. Work is primarily sedentary in nature; there are no special physical demands.
• Must be able to lift and carry up to 5-10 lbs.
• Must be able to talk, listen and speak clearly on telephone
• Ability to be physically in attendance at designated worksite during scheduled work hours and to work some evenings and weekends.
