UMC Oncology Pharmacist
PART I - General Job / Performance Information
Education and Experience
Doctorate of Pharmacy degree required. Pharmacy residency or equivalent experience in Oncology preferred. 3-5 years of hospital experience preferred.
Environmental / Working Conditions
Hours of duty may be irregular to accommodate departmental requirements.
Stable and secure working environment.
Interaction with Other Departments and Other Relationships
Must possess the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with nursing staff, LIPs, andthe general public.
Job Description
The Oncology Pharmacist is responsible for providing quality pharmaceutical care for the oncology patient population in collaboration with other healthcare providers. Activities may include : clinic participation, rounding, drug selection, dosing, ordering, dispensing, monitoring, drug information, research, committee membership, and patient education to ensure safe, appropriate and cost effective drug therapy.
Required Licensures / Certifications / Registrations
Registration and licensure as a registered pharmacist by the Texas State Board of Pharmacy. Board certification in Oncology preferred.
Physical Capabilities
Work is of medium demand; walking and standing a great deal of time.
May occasionally be asked to lift objects weighing 25 pounds.
Near visual acuity required.
Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of clinical pharmacy practice and experience in chemotherapy management and oncology. Good verbal communications skills. A working knowledge of the hospital organization. Knowledge of nursing and pharmacy theory, practice and regulations; and familiarity with individual departmental functions, is required.
