What are Trust Fund Positions?

Trust Fund positions are unique to the Smithsonian. They are paid for from a variety of sources, including the Smithsonian endowment, revenue from our business activities, donations, grants and contracts. Trust employees are not part of the civil service, nor does trust fund employment lead to Federal status. The salary ranges for trust positions are generally the same as for federal positions and in many cases trust and federal employees work side by side.   • OVERVIEW

    This position is located organizationally in Office of Digital and Innovation (ODI), Office of the Deputy Secretary, Smithsonian Institution (SI).

    SI is a diverse museum and research complex dedicated to the increase and diffusion of knowledge. The Office of Digital and Innovation (ODI) is driving the future of how the Smithsonian advances its mission and connects with the world. ODI works centrally and within Smithsonian units to unlock the full potential of our collections and resources, better understand and serve our audiences, and pioneer innovative approaches to accelerate and scale our impact—all while empowering staff across the Smithsonian with the tools and skills they need to success in and ever-changing digital world.

    This position is assigned responsibility for managing a portfolio of courses and learning programs related to digital tools and capabilities that support a digital ecosystem.

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manages the assigned training and learning program in its entirety including assessment, evaluation, report metrics and tracking of milestones. Participates with key unit staff in determining program needs, defining program goals, setting priorities, and developing work plans.
  • Works with individuals and groups from inside and outside SI to include senior leadership, digital leaders and practitioners, contractors and vendors to plan, develop, implement, and carry out the ODI training program and projects.
  • Draft and disseminate statements of work and requests for quote / proposal and evaluates proposals from vendors to initiate procurement. Prepares and maintains project work plans and schedules
  • Works with subject matter experts to develop new training curricula that ensure relevant SI staff have the knowledge and skills they need to successfully use data and technology to fulfill their duties.
  • Develops a series of eLearning modules and oversees course development.
  • Develops methods of evaluation and testing materials for all courses.
  • Coordinates the annual training schedule with class instructors to ensure successful training delivery.
  • QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

    Experience required for this position is as follows :

  • The role requires knowledge in instructional design, program development, and evaluation, with the ability to analyze complex instructional challenges across diverse contexts.
  • Proficiency in information technology (hardware, software, and mobile devices), digital innovation, and program planning and skills in managing and coordinating outreach initiatives and professional training for varied audiences.
  • Adaptability, creativity in developing new methods, and effective teamwork and collaboration skills.
  • Strong communication skills for drafting communication and learning materials, independent project management, and collaboration with IT specialists and program managers are critical, alongside a results-driven approach focused on measurable outcomes and compliance with organizational objectives.
