About The Position

Job Title : Level 2 Registered Nurse - Med / Surg

Profession : Registered Nurse

Specialty : Medical / Surgical

Duration : 13 weeks

Shift : 3 shifts per week

Hours per Shift : 12.0 hours

Experience : Minimum of 1 year RN experience

License : Current Registered Nurse Licensure

Certifications : Current BLS, Current ACLS, Current PALS

Must-Have : Completion of Nurse Residency Program for RNs with less than 1 year of experience

Description :

Provides direct and indirect patient care in a healthcare setting.

The RN must effectively communicate with all team members about changes in the patient's clinical condition or updates in care, which includes reporting results of diagnostic studies and symptoms.

The nurse must quickly and accurately respond to changes in a patient's condition.

Additionally, the nurse must perform general nursing duties in all assigned departments with adequate supervision.

Duties and Responsibilities :

Ability to perform a head-to-toe assessment on all patients and conduct reassessments as per policy, including pediatric, geriatric, and general patient populations.

Ability to adequately assess and reassess pain using appropriate pain management techniques.

Educate patients and families regarding pain management.

Ability to revise the plan of care based on the patient's response to treatment and evaluate the overall plan daily and as needed for effectiveness.

Ability to perform waived testing (point-of-care testing) per clinical laboratory and patient care unit policies and procedures.

Ability to interpret results of waived tests and take appropriate action.

Performs patient care responsibilities considering needs specific to the standard of care for patients of different ages.

Knowledge of medications and their correct administration based on the age of the patient and clinical condition.

Follows the six medication rights to minimize the potential for medication errors.

Formulates a teaching plan based on identified learning needs and evaluates effectiveness of learning, involving family in teaching as appropriate.

Demonstrates the ability to assist physicians with procedures and performs services requiring technical and manual skills.

Treats patients and their families with respect and dignity.

Identifies and addresses psychosocial, cultural, ethnic, and religious / spiritual needs of patients and families.

Functions as a liaison between administration, patients, physicians, and other healthcare providers.

Interacts professionally with patients and families and involves them in the formation of the plan of care.

Demonstrates knowledge of growth and development principles across the lifespan and skills necessary to provide age-appropriate care.

Able to interpret data about the patient's status to identify each patient's age-specific needs and provide care accordingly.

Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of healthcare errors.

Supports and maintains a culture of safety and quality.

Consults other departments as needed to provide an interdisciplinary approach to patient needs.

Communicates appropriately and clearly to the Nurse Manager, Charge Nurse, coworkers, and physicians.

Maintains a good working relationship within the department and with other departments.

Identifies and addresses psychosocial needs of patients and families; communicates with appropriate staff regarding both in-hospital and post-discharge needs.

Ensures documentation meets current standards and policies.

Manages and operates equipment safely and correctly.

Coordinates and supervises patient care as necessary.

Demonstrates flexibility, organization, and the ability to function under stressful situations.

Maintains clinical competencies and addresses patient calls and refill requests as needed.

Obtains medical prior authorization when necessary.
