Position Overview :
The Welder will report directly to the Senior Welding Associate and will work closely with other Metal Shop personnel. This position will collaborate with engineering and production departments to ensure welded components meet specifications and production schedules.
SCOPE : The purpose of the Welder position at Gasser Chair is to perform a variety of welding operations to fabricate metal parts and assemblies used in the construction of our custom seating products. The Welder will read and interpret blueprints, follow welding procedures, and ensure structural integrity and quality of all welded components. This role plays a key role in maintaining high standards of safety, precision, and quality in the manufacturing process.
Summary description :
Specific responsibilities of this position will include, but will not be limited to :
1. Welding Operations : Perform MIG and / or TIG welding to fabricate and assemble metal structures and components based on specifications and blueprints.
2. Blueprint Reading : Interpret engineering drawings, weld symbols, and work orders to plan and execute welds according to product requirements.
3. Fixture Use : Utilize jigs, fixtures, and templates to position and hold parts for welding and ensure consistency across production runs.
4. Material Preparation : Cut, grind, and clean metal parts using hand and power tools to prepare them for welding.
5. Weld Quality Assurance : Inspect welds for accuracy, structural integrity, and visual appearance, making corrections as necessary to meet quality standards.
6. Equipment Maintenance : Conduct routine maintenance of welding equipment, ensuring tools and machines are in safe working condition.
7. Safety Compliance : Follow all company safety procedures and wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), including helmets, gloves, and protective clothing.
8. Process Improvement : Provide feedback to leadership on welding procedures and suggest improvements to enhance efficiency or quality.
9. Collaboration : Work closely with team members and supervisors to ensure timely completion of orders and resolve fabrication issues.
10. Documentation : Accurately complete production records, material usage logs, and any required inspection reports.
Skills / Qualifications :
1. High school diploma or GED required; technical certification in welding preferred.
2. Proven experience as a MIG and / or TIG welder in a manufacturing or fabrication setting.
3. Ability to read and interpret blueprints, welding symbols, and work instructions.
4. Strong working knowledge of welding tools, equipment, and safety procedures.
5. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and as part of a team.
6. Proficiency in using hand tools, grinders, and fabrication equipment.
7. Solid attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work.
8. Ability to pass a weld test as part of the hiring process.
9. Willingness to cross-train and assist in other areas of the metal shop as needed.
Physical Requirements
The Welder at Gasser Chair is expected to perform job duties in a manufacturing environment. The role requires the ability to stand for extended periods, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, and use hands and arms in handling materials, tools, and equipment. The Welder must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs when necessary and operate in environments with exposure to welding fumes, heat, sparks, and loud noise. Use of PPE including welding hoods, gloves, and protective clothing is required. Regular visual acuity is necessary to inspect welds and read blueprints.
