Job Summary
Operations Manager is responsible for supervising the administrative services of a large academic department within a school OR college OR non-academic department (program). Typically reports to a manager. Administrative services include all or some of the following functions : IT, facilities, student services, contracts and grants, budgetary financial management and / or human resources. Supervises support and / or professional staff.
The Operations Manager provides leadership and oversight of CVRI's Research Operations Team, which is responsible for building and facilities management and research support infrastructure, including the glasswash and the CVRI Zebrafish Core. The incumbent leads a staff of seven with potential for growth as the Zebrafish Core expands. A substantial portion of their time is spent supervising the team to ensure it meets operational, productivity, and financial goals and remains compliant with safety guidelines and industry best practices.
They provide direct, high-level analytical support to the department, faculty, and the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO). They speak for the Director, CAO, and Department leadership to local, national, and International constituencies. The incumbent works closely with the Director and CAO to set and implement departmental policies, procedures, and systems, and to follow through with implementation. The incumbent understands the Director's, CAO's, and departmental vision and goals, provides a consistent message of these items to a broad range of constituents, and exemplifies the department culture, mission, and values. The Operations Manager reports to the CAO and provides support on high-level operations, including process improvement on administrative processes, learning and development for staff, onboarding and off-boarding process improvement, and long and short-range strategic planning for the unit.
The Operations Manager may also perform and / or oversee special projects or assignments that are sensitive or complex in nature, requiring a high level of independence and initiative in execution and implementation. Handles details and oversees work of a highly confidential and critical nature to support the Director, CAO, and leadership team on matters of strategic and operational significance.
The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.
Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.
The salary range for this position is $100,100 - $164,000 (Annual Rate).

Department Description
The primary mission of the Cardiovascular Research Institute, the largest organized research unit on the San Francisco campus, is to promote fundamental and clinical research on the cardiovascular and pulmonary respiratory systems and to provide opportunities for postdoctoral training in these fields. With over 200 faculty, staff, and postdoctoral fellows, the CVRI supports faculty from a variety of departments (Medicine, Biochemistry, Biophysics, Lab Medicine, Pediatrics, Anatomy, Anesthesia, Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Physiology, Cellular and Molecular Pharmacology). The total extramural funding is $29 million annually (direct and indirect costs), with $1M in indirect cost return, and $561K in State funds. Assets include $38 million in endowment income and gifts, $3M in clinical reserves, and $5.8M in opportunity funds.
