Job description

Antelope Valley College invites applications for our adjunct (Temporary, part-time) faculty applicant pool for the following disciplines : Math, Sciences, and Engineering, specifically for the Adjunct Astronomy Physics position.

Representative Duties :

  • Instruct students in the assigned discipline.
  • Assignments may include teaching courses during the day, evening, online courses, and / or at off-campus sites.

Minimum Qualifications :

Applicant must meet one of the following requirements :

  • Most current Minimum Qualifications for Faculty in California Community Colleges : Master's in physics, astronomy, or astrophysics OR Bachelor's in physics or astronomy AND Master's in engineering, mathematics, meteorology, or geophysics OR the equivalent.
  • Antelope Valley College Equivalency : No Antelope Valley College Equivalency.

    • Additional Requirements :

  • A sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students (Assembly Bill 1725; Education Code 87360).

    • Application Process :

  • Applicants must attach the following documents to their online application : a current resume, a letter of intent addressing minimum and desirable qualifications, a scanned copy of official transcripts with the required degree(s). Foreign transcripts and degrees require official certification of equivalency to U.S. transcripts and degrees by a certified U.S. review service, and must identify graduate-level coursework.
  • Two (2) current letters of professional reference signed and dated within the last year.
  • Incomplete applications or missing documents will not be considered.

  • Applicants may be subject to passing an examination (written / technical).
  • Residency within a reasonable geographical area may be necessary.
