The Health Educator / Prevention Specialist is a vital member of the team in the Center for Wellness and Health Promotion, providing expertise in the intersection of wellbeing and choices related to alcohol and substance use. This role acts as the primary provider of BASICS (Brief Alcohol Screening and Intervention for College Students) and assists in the design, implementation, and evaluation of programming relevant to the student community of Harvard. The Health Educator / Prevention Specialist also provides weekly individual wellness coaching to Harvard College students in collaboration with the Assistant Director of Wellness Coaching and Community Initiatives.
With a focus on alcohol and substance use, the prevention specialist will also collaborate with other team members to develop workshops and programs that intersect with the other aspects of well-being including topics of sleep, sexual health, and stress management. This role is responsible for research and analysis of substance use trends across university settings and dissemination of such knowledge to the broader health promotion team and school administration as appropriate. This role works closely with student interns and actively participates in professional development activities.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assists in the development of strategic plans, goals, and measurable objectives for the Center for Wellness and Health Promotion.
- Develop and present alcohol and substance use education programs for Harvard University
- Serves as an office interventionist to provide Brief Alcohol Screening & Intervention for College Students (BASICS) and office consultations
- Coordinates planning and implementation of alcohol and other substance use related events
- Serves as a resource to peer education groups including training and overseeing the safer partying grant program.
- Collaborates on the design, implementation, and evaluation of orientation, training, and programming activities for Harvard College and other schools upon request.
- Assists in the development and coordination of educational campaigns related to wellbeing and substance use.
- Collaborates on assessing and evaluating programs and services, as well as researching and analyzing substance use trends on campus
- Provides individual wellness coaching to Harvard College students
- Actively participates in HUHS committees and University partnerships / committees / task forces as required
- May represent Harvard University Health Services and the Center for Wellness and Health Promotion at national / local meetings, conferences
- Provides supervision and mentorship to undergraduate and graduate interns as requested.
