Director, System Nursing Professional Practice and Education

Director Of Nursing

Provides visionary leadership and strategic direction for nursing practice, professional development, and education across the WVU Health System. This role is responsible for designing, implementing, and evaluating system-wide programs that advance clinical excellence, shared governance, evidence-based practice, and leadership development.

Serving as a key advisor to nursing and executive leadership, the Director supports innovation in care delivery, fosters interprofessional collaboration, and ensures alignment with regulatory standards, accreditation requirements, and organizational goals. The role balances high-level strategic planning with hands-on support, providing expert consultation, coaching, and oversight to local hospital leaders, educators, and clinical teams.

Minimum Qualifications :

• Education, Certification, and / or Licensure : 1. Master's degree in nursing or related field.
• 2. Current Registered Nurse license issued by the state in which services will be provided OR current multi-state Registered Nurse license through the enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact (eNLC).
• 3. Must possess and maintain one (1) of the following nursing professional certifications : Nurse Executive Certification (NE-BC) from the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC); Nurse Executive, Advanced Certification (NEA-BC) from ANCC, Nursing Professional Development Certification (NPD-BC) from ANCC, or Certified in Executive Nursing Practice Certification (CENP) from American Organization for Nursing Leadership (AONL).
• Experience : 1. Five (5) years of clinical nursing experience.
• 2. Two (2) years of experience with shared governance and nursing program-related accreditation standards.
