Marina Del Rey is a community hospital hosts a 12-bed general ICU staffed by Cedars -Sinai pulmonary and critical care faculty.
The patient mix is majority general medical such as sepsis, respiratory failure and DKA, but we also care for general surgical and cardiac patients as well.
The ICU accommodates mechanical ventilation, vasopressors, prone ventilation, and CRRT. The hospital does not have advanced interventional radiology, cardiac catheterization lab, neurosurgical or trauma capabilities and those patients require transfer.
MDR uses EPIC EMR and radiology is available 24 hours and on PACS. The overnight provider is responsible for caring for existing ICU patients, admitting new patients, performing emergent procedures, and responding to in-hospital cardiac arrests.
There is a PCCM attending or fellow available nightly on home call and in-house ER physicians in case of emergency. Educational benefits include interacting with PCCM faculty, invitations to all Cedars PCCM academic conferences and lectures and many other educational opportunities.
We are in construction of a 10-story state of the art facility overlooking the harbor that will replace the current physical plant.
The new hospital is slated to open in the fall of 2006.
The Nurse Practitioner (NP) is responsible and accountable for the application of the nursing process, supervision of clinical practice, research involvement, consultative services, inter and intradepartmental liaison, education, leadership, and patient care management across the health care continuum from preventative, acute care through discharge.
A Nurse Practitioner’s practice incorporates both independent decision-making abilities and collaboration with the board certified / eligible physician to provide expert care to the patients.
Under the supervision of the Marina del Rey Hospital (MDRH) Intensive Care Unit (ICU) Medical Director, the Nurse Practitioner provides preliminary assessment / evaluation in the ICU.
- Responsible to the medical director and the chief nursing officer (CNO) and functions as an integral part of the medical team.
- Practices under the Board of Registered Nursing California code of regulations, Title 16, Article 8, Section 1480-1485, utilizing the Nurse Practitioner Standardized Procedures.
These are developed in a collaborative effort within the area of specialty, department of Nursing and the Hospital Administration, incorporating CSHS goals and represent an interdisciplinary approach to patient care delivery.
- Provides individualized care upholding CSHS philosophies including but not limited to care consistent with Nursing Standards of Care / Practice, the Plan for Provision of Nursing Care, the Plan for Provision of Patient Care, the Performance Improvement Plan, the Patient Education Plan, the Professional Organization Standards, Code of Conduct, and hospital and departmental policies and procedures.
- Performs all job duties with sensitivity and attention to age and developmental milestones of the population(s) served which may include neonate, infant, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric.
- Can identify the ability of the age specific population served to follow direction / instructions and give consent. Identify safety concerns and institute measures to provide safe environment and provide appropriate assessment, intervention, and evaluation of patients with consideration of developmental milestones in the population served.
Education :
- Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program required.
- Master's degree.
License / Certification :
- Current CA RN License
- Nurse Practitioner and Furnishing License.
- DEA License.
- National NP Certification
- ACLS Life Support Certification (AHA or ARC)
Experience :
- One (1) plus years of experience as a Nurse Practitioner preferred.
- Three (3) plus years of nursing experience in Critical Care / ICU.
- Medical ICU and Central Lines / Arterial Lines and Airway Management experience highly preferred.
