About the Role

We are seeking a motivated Electrical Engineer I to join the Facilities Projects Team at Newport News Shipbuilding. This is an excellent opportunity for a recent engineering graduate to gain hands-on experience in infrastructure design, construction projects, and project lifecycle management in a world-class defense manufacturing environment.

As part of this team, you’ll support end-to-end project execution—from concept and feasibility through construction, commissioning, and close-out.

Key Responsibilities

• Research, design, and test electrical systems, components, and equipment.
• Develop project plans including scope, budget, schedule, risk assessments, and justification.
• Collaborate with engineering teams, contractors, and stakeholders to support facility infrastructure projects.
• Conduct feasibility studies and develop High-Level Feasibility Estimates (HLFEs).
• Review designs for performance, quality, and compliance with industry standards.
• Ensure all projects meet local, state, and federal regulations.
• Support financial and scheduling aspects including budgeting, progress tracking, and contractor payments.
• Drive project execution with a strong focus on safety, quality, and successful delivery.

Qualifications

✅ Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (from an ABET-accredited program)

✅ Strong communication and problem-solving skills

✅ Ability to work on multiple priorities in a fast-paced, technical environment

✅ Interest in electrical systems and facilities infrastructure
