Insurance Brokerage Accounting Manager
A growing insurance brokerage organization is seeking an experienced Accounting Manager to lead technical accounting and operational reporting activities across a complex reinsurance and insurance program environment. This role provides oversight of key financial processes, supports accounting policy interpretation, partners closely with cross functional teams, and drives the accuracy and timeliness of financial results. The position is ideal for someone with strong insurance or reinsurance accounting expertise, proven leadership skills, and the ability to operate in a fast paced, evolving business.
Experience
- Minimum 7 years of experience in insurance, reinsurance, or broker related accounting, including technical accounting and operational reporting.
- Strong understanding of insurance and reinsurance structures, treaty mechanics, premium and claims flows, and related accounting treatments.
- Experience performing complex account reconciliations, financial analysis, and close processes.
- Knowledge of US GAAP and statutory accounting principles.
- Ability to interpret new accounting standards and support accounting policy implementations.
- Advanced Excel skills and proficiency in large ERP or insurance accounting systems.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate across underwriting, actuarial, claims, finance, and operations.
- Experience supervising teams or leading accounting processes is preferred.
Responsibilities
Oversee the accounting, reporting, and operational activities associated with insurance and reinsurance programs, including ceded, assumed, proportional, and non-proportional structures.Manage monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes related to premiums, losses, commissions, reinstatement premiums, brokerage, and other reinsurance related balances.Perform and review account reconciliations, bordereaux reporting, and financial analysis to ensure accurate and timely recognition of reinsurance transactions.Review reinsurance contracts and related documentation to confirm appropriate financial treatment and ensure compliance with accounting standards.Support the development, documentation, and enhancement of accounting policies, internal controls, and operational workflows.Partner with actuarial, underwriting, claims, data, and finance teams to resolve discrepancies and ensure completeness of financial information.Prepare reporting packages, schedules, and analytics for internal management, external auditors, and regulatory filings as required.Provide leadership, training, and oversight to junior team members, ensuring consistency in accounting practices and operational execution.
