WHAT WE CAN ACHIEVE TOGETHER
The Utah Great Salt Lake Shorelands Preserve (GSLSP) Assistant performs and participates in preserve operations and maintenance, under the direction of the GSLSP Manager and Utah Director of Stewardship. The funding and/or need for this position is expected to last for approximately six months. with an intended start-date in early- to mid-April and an end date in early- to mid-October.
The Utah GSLSP Assistant removes exotic species, maintains/builds fence, and maintains tools and equipment while stewarding the land. They should be familiar with various type of equipment, including but not limited to chainsaws, tractors, trailers and ATVs and be familiar with herbicide equipment/handling at the following Preserves:
- The 4,540-acre Great Salt Lake Shorelands Preserve, owned and managed by TNC.
- The 2,098-acre Legacy Nature Preserve, owned and managed by TNC.
- The 616-acre South Shore Reserve, owned and managed by TNC.
- The 3,670-acre Inland Sea Shorebird Reserve, owned by Rio Tinto Kennecott and managed by TNC.
May work in variable weather conditions, at remote locations, on difficult and hazardous terrain, and under physically demanding circumstances. Requires considerable physical exertion and/or muscular strain.

WHAT YOU'LL BRING
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- High school diploma or GED and 1 year’s training in science-related field or related experience in land management.
- Experience recognizing plant and animal species.
- Experience operating various types of equipment in a safe and efficient manner (e.g. Lawn mower, chainsaw, UTV, ATV or OHV, two-way radio, or similar equipment).
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- 1 - 2 years’ experience in land management or related field.
- Experience working in a team environment.
- Experience working with or knowledge of natural systems.
- Ability to follow instructions from colleagues/coworkers/team members.
- PC and/or mobile device familiarity, including database knowledge or understanding.
- Multi-lingual skills and multi-cultural experience appreciated.
- Ability to obtain related licenses or certifications, as required (e.g., First Aid, CPR, herbicide or pesticide application).

Employment in this position will be contingent upon completion of a Vehicle Use Agreement, which may include a review of the prospective employee's motor vehicle record.
SALARY INFORMATION
The starting pay range for a candidate selected for this position is generally within the range of $18.02 - $19.14 per hour. This range only applies to candidates whose country of employment is the USA. Where a successful candidate’s actual pay will fall within this range will be based on a variety of factors, including, for example, the candidate's location, qualifications, specific skills, and experience. Please note countries outside the USA would have a different pay range in the local currency based on the local labor market, and not tied to USA pay or ranges. Your geographic location will be confirmed during the recruitment.
