Job Summary The Mobile Equipment Operator is responsible for operating heavy and mobile equipment to support industrial and facility service operations, while also performing general labor tasks as needed. This position requires a high level of safety awareness, physical capability, and the ability to work effectively in challenging industrial environments. In addition to equipment operation, the role includes responsibilities typically assigned to general laborers.
Key Responsibilities
- Safely operate mobile and heavy equipment such as skid steers, loaders, forklifts, and other site-specific machinery
- Perform daily inspections and basic maintenance of assigned equipment
- Assist with transporting materials, debris, and waste using mobile equipment and wheelbarrows
- Shovel ash build-up from under and around conveyor systems and hoppers
- Perform general plant clean-up, including removal of trash and debris from maintenance activities
- Clean inside hoppers and boilers (requires confined space entry)
- Serve as Confined Space Attendant when assigned
- Perform fire watch duties during hot work operations
- Sweep, shovel, and power wash floors and work areas
- Open and secure equipment access doors for inspections or cleaning
- Assist with painting, surface preparation, and dusting of machinery and workspaces
- Follow all safety procedures and maintain a clean and organized work environment
- Complete additional tasks as directed by supervisors or project leads

Previous experience operating mobile equipment in an industrial, construction, or facility service settingKnowledge of confined space and fire watch proceduresAbility to follow instructions, complete logs and reports, and communicate effectivelyAbility to follow instructions and communicate effectively with team membersRequirements
Certification for mobile equipment is provided upon employment and must be completed as part of onboardingMust pass all pre-employment screenings, including verification, background check, drug test, medical evaluation, and fit testPhysically able to lift, push, or pull over 50 lbsAble to perform tasks requiring reaching, bending, climbing, and standing for extended periodsComfortable working at heights over 4 feet and in confined spacesAble to work in high-temperature environments (90°F+)Must wear and work in full personal protective equipment (PPE), including hard hat, safety glasses, earplugs, steel toe boots, respirator, gloves, coveralls, and safety harnessMust pass all pre-employment screenings, including verification, background check, drug test, medical evaluation, and fit test
