Position Summary : We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Per Diem Nuclear Medicine Technologist - Cancer Center.

Reason for recruitment : Per Diem role within the Nuclear Medicine area.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrates knowledge of the organizations Service Standards and incorporates them into the performance of duties.
• Operates hospital and radiology information systems as they relate to nuclear medicine. Correctly selects appropriate patient information from HIS / RIS in accordance with HIPAA regulations. Accesses patient information such as appointment times, type of exam, and patient reports. Documents beginning, completion and departure times in RIS when appropriate. Accesses patient data in HIS for verification of orders. Schedules exams in RIS from the order entry queue and can modify exams when necessary.
• Assesses patient information and status, follows appropriate procedures, identifies the correct patient, verifies patient identity against requisition, and confers with medical staff when necessary. References policy and procedure manuals to ensure actions conform to established protocols. Follows special instructions on Nuclear Medicine requisitions and isolation precautions as indicated.
• Independently implements patient procedures in accordance with departmental protocols and standards. Explains procedures and equipment to patients, obtains formal consent when necessary, and maintains patient comfort and privacy throughout the procedure.
• Verifies radiopharmaceutical labels, calculates required activity, and uses a dose calibrator to verify radioactivity. Prep and dispense radiopharmaceuticals; position patient and equipment and optimize imaging parameters; perform filming and data archiving; analyze data and report results to physician.
• Assists physicians during procedures; maintains efficiency, transmits / segments data to PACS, and prepares equipment for future exams. Adjusts for STAT and emergency cases as needed and recognizes medical emergencies.
• Independently implements non-imaging procedures per protocols. Collects body fluid specimens and processes specimens in accordance with standard practice. Operates counting equipment for in-vivo and in-vitro procedures.
• Radiopharmacyprepares doses, confirms calculated activity using a dose calibrator, handles waste and radioactive materials safely, and prepares radiopharmaceuticals per manufacturer specifications.
• Radiation Controlperforms disposal and decontamination in accordance with regulations and reduces exposure where possible. Conducts contamination surveys as required and notifies supervisor of incidents.
• Quality Controlperforms routine system evaluations, calibrates dose calibrator, and develops quality control procedures to ensure validity and accuracy.
• Documentationmaintains records for quality control, dose preparation, administration, receipt of radioactive materials, radiopharmaceuticals, waste disposal, and contamination procedures.
• Equipmentsets up and maintains equipment, selects appropriate collimators and settings, operates laboratory equipment for non-imaging and imaging procedures, reports malfunctions, and handles printers and related equipment.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Salary and Benefits : NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with New York state Salary Transparency law. The salary range for the role is $62 hourly. Actual salaries depend on factors including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The salary range does not include bonuses / incentives or other forms of compensation.
