• First-time Travelers : Yes, if they have long-term care experience.\n
• Distance Requirement : Travelers must live 100+ miles away from any Monument Health facility.\n
• Rehire Policy : Previous permanent staff must wait 1 year before returning as a traveler.\nPatient Types\n
• Long-term care or Rehab / Skilled Nursing Facility.\n
• No memory care unit.\n
• Common diagnoses : stable, dementia, typical nursing home patients, long-term residents.\n
• Comfort care patients : collaborate with MH Hospice RNs as needed.\n
• No traches / vents; occasional feeding tubes, IVs, and catheter care.\nPatient Ratios\n
• Nurse : 1 : 25–30 (2 nurses per shift, RN / LPN or LPN / LPN). Must have an RN in the building for 8 hours daily. Med aide helps pass meds.\n
• Medication Aide : 1 : 25–30 (2 per shift).\n
• CNA : 1 : 10 (5 per shift).\nRequired Certifications\n
• RN : BLS\nEducation Requirements\n
• RN / LPN : Completion of an approved nursing education program; must be licensed through SD Board of Nursing.\nSkills Required\n
• RN : Tube feeds, ostomy care, dressing / wound care, phlebotomy, IV starts, ability to act as Charge RN.\n
• All Positions : Team player, positive attitude, LTC experience preferred. Must comply with COVID testing 2x / week (subject to CMS guidelines).\nSupport on the Unit\n
• Charge nurse : Supervisors rotate on-call weeks; tied to hospital and clinic.\n
• Hospitalist : Rounds 2x / week.\n
• Connected to ED for quick response.\n
• OT available.\nCharting System\n
• Point Click Care (primary).\n
• Epic Care Link (nurses only, view-only access).\nFloating\n
• Two nurse units — staff may work both sides.\nOrientation\n
• 2 shifts (1 day per unit), plus education department sessions.\nScheduling\n
• 12-hour variable shifts. Contracted to Days or Nights but must remain flexible.\n
• Example : If contracted for Days, may be reassigned to Nights.\n
• Weekend rotation : Every other weekend minimum (may be asked for more).\n
• On call : No.\n
• Holidays : Expected to work 2 of 4 major holidays.\n
• Time off : Up to 7 days without approval.
