Medical Assistant / Allergy Tech

As a Medical Assistant / Allergy Tech working in an Ear, Nose, and Throat (ENT) clinic, your responsibilities typically involve a combination of administrative and clinical tasks.

Administrative Duties :

  • Schedule patient appointments, surgeries, and follow-up visits, ensuring efficient use of time slots and coordination with other staff members.
  • Greet patients, collect demographic and insurance information, and update electronic medical records (EMRs) accurately.
  • Verify patient insurance coverage, obtain authorizations for procedures or tests, and assist patients with insurance-related inquiries.
  • Maintain organized and up-to-date medical records, including filing, scanning, and retrieving documents as needed.
  • Assist with billing processes, including coding procedures and services accurately to ensure proper reimbursement.
  • Monitor inventory levels of medical and office supplies, restock as needed, and coordinate supply orders with the administrative team.
  • Facilitate communication between patients, physicians, and other healthcare providers, both in person and over the phone.

Clinical Duties :

  • Escort patients to examination rooms, obtain vital signs (blood pressure, pulse, temperature), and prepare patients for procedures or examinations.
  • Perform allergy skin testing, including prick tests and intradermal tests, and interpret results under the supervision of a physician.
  • Administer allergy immunotherapy injections according to physician orders, following established protocols and safety guidelines.
  • Educate patients about allergy triggers, avoidance strategies, medication usage, and the purpose of allergy testing and immunotherapy.
  • Assist physicians during ENT procedures, such as ear irrigation, nasal endoscopy, or throat examinations, by providing support and maintaining a sterile environment.
  • Document patient assessments, procedures performed, and treatment plans accurately in EMRs, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and clinic protocols.
  • Adhere to infection control protocols, maintain cleanliness and sterilization of equipment, and promote a safe environment for patients and staff.
  • Qualifications :

  • High school diploma or equivalent. Completion of a medical assistant program or certification as an allergy technician may be required or preferred.
  • Certification as a Medical Assistant (CMA) or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) may be required. Additional certification as an Allergy Technician (CMAA) or Certified Clinical Allergy Specialist (CCAS) is desirable.
  • Prior experience in a medical office setting, especially in ENT or allergy clinics, is advantageous.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, attention to detail, ability to multitask, proficiency in EMR systems, and knowledge of medical terminology and allergy testing techniques.
  • MA License Preferred
