Job Title : Maintenance Technician

Repair and maintain street infrastructure, signs, street markings, storm drainage systems, fleet vehicles, and other equipment.

Salary : $18.30 - $19.03 Hourly

Job Requirements :

A. Education and / or Experience : A high school diploma or GED is required, will substitute experience for some education. Must pass a background check and a physical.

B. Certificates, Licenses, Registrations : Must possess a valid driver's license with no outstanding violations.

C. Continuing Education : Must take equipment operator and safety courses as required. Must take a safe driving course. Must take a basic Haz-Mat course.

D. Skills :

• Reading : Ability to read and comprehend simple to complex instructions, manuals, correspondence, and memos.
• Writing : Ability to communicate effectively in writing.
• Math : Basic math skills.
• Reasoning : Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions. Ability to deal with standardized situations with occasional variables. Ability to discern when other parties need to be involved in validating priorities. Skill in organizing resources and establishing priorities.
• Speaking : Effective verbal communication skill required.
• Interpersonal : Interact with staff and public. Must work efficiently with all City employees, department, outside agencies, and accept instructions from Director, Shift Leader, and City Manager.
• Other Job Functions : Must have the ability to safely operate all power and hand equipment assigned to the department. Operate large equipment such as backhoe / loader, skid steer, tractor / shredder, dump truck, crack filler machine, tree chipper, mulcher, and stump grinder. Operate small equipment such as striping machine, plate tampers, pumps, small engines, etc. Perform manual labor under conditions involving extremes of heat and cold. Must use all personal safety equipment as provided by the City of Windcrest.

Essential Job Functions :

A. Maintenance : City Park grounds, equipment, buildings, streets, alleys, easements, green belts, storm drains, curbs, monuments, and sidewalks. Provides manual labor following basic routines directed by an immediate Shift Leader or Supervisor during construction repair or build. Set up safety and traffic control devices and systems for repair work. Clean, service, and maintain assigned tools, machinery, equipment, and if applicable, storage yards. Provides routine skilled work in the care and culture of plants, trees, grass, Planter, and (Monuments) flower beds. General maintenance of City streets, alleys, Storm drainage, Playgrounds, Monuments, City Hall, Civic Center, Fire dorms and Security Gates. Provide maintenance and services on all vehicles and equipment and maintenance of City facilities. Perform related duties as assigned, which may include cross training.

B. Equipment : Operate several types of equipment including manual and automatic, gas, diesel operated, electrical or pneumatic powered equipment and tools.

C. Other Job Functions : Assist with set up and clean up for various City functions as needed. Perform routine carpentry, painting, cementing, asphalting, lawns, planters, and monuments as required. Stand by basis; respond to after-hour service calls concerning emergencies and / or weather-related concerns. Must be able to lift, push and / or pull 80 pounds safely. Must be able to judge the ability to use equipment when it exceeds your weight capabilities when lifting, pushing, or pulling. Works overtime and holidays as needed. Must have reliable transportation. Perform other duties as directed.

Working Conditions and Job Demands : Work may involve exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and / or loud noises. Work environment involves exposure to physical risks, such as operating dangerous equipment or working with chemicals.
