American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a night shift PCU position in an Ortho Neuro Surgical setting, requiring a compact or SD RN license and strong stepdown and telemetry skills.
\n \n Responsibilities\n
Work in a 64-bed Ortho Neuro Surgical unit with mixed acuity (Intermediate Care, Telemetry, and MedSurg)Patient population includes surgical (urology, abdominal, general), orthopedic trauma, neuro / spine, and complex medical casesCommon cases involve post-operative care, neuro interventions, ortho trauma, wound care, telemetry, and medical conditions such as CHF, COPD, and renal failurePatient ratio is 1 RN to 4 patients; CNA ratio is 1 : 8Unit operates with a pod structure of 8 patients per pod, staffed by 2 RNs and 1 aideRequired to work 12-hour night shifts, 36 hours per weekWeekend rotation may require up to 4 weekends in a 6-week schedule, including Fridays, Saturdays, and SundaysNo mandatory on-call required; potential for on-call if working extra shifts beyond scheduled hoursFloating may occur to various adult inpatient units (Med Surg, Ortho / Neuro / Surgical, Heart and Vascular, Oncology, Observation)Uses Epic for charting, as well as Alaris and Omnicell equipmentPost-neuro intervention experience is preferred, but education and resources are availableDrip titration experience needed with common drips (Heparin, Insulin, Cardizem, Amiodarone, Levophed up to 5 mcg, occasional Esmolol and beta blockers; training provided as needed)Monthly audits for Pre / Post pain scoring require minimum 90% complianceOrientation includes 2 days of classroom / online learning and 2 shifts with a preceptorSupport team includes 2 non-assigned charge nurses, a flex nurse, CNA, resource nurse, RT, and hospitalistNavy blue scrubs requiredFree parking is providedNo time off approved during the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally blackout dates (August 1-18, dates may vary)Holiday RTO requests must be made before offer and are generally not acceptedFirst-time travelers are accepted if requirements are met and Epic EMR experience is documentedUnit management is known for being traveler-friendly and open to contract renewals\n \n Requirements\n
Active SD or Compact RN license requiredCompletion of an approved nursing education programMinimum 1 year experience in intermediate / stepdown or PCU nursingCurrent BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications requiredOne year of Epic EMR experience required for first-time travelersMust have experience with IMC / Stepdown, telemetry, reading cardiac strips, chest tubes, trach (no fresh traches), NGT management, PICC / Midline / CVL / PIV placement, wound care, medication administration, TPN / tube feedings, blood product transfusions, and relevant device managementComfortable accepting med / surg assignmentsMust live at least 100 miles from any Monument Health facility (no local candidates)Former permanent staff must wait one year before returning as a traveler\n Benefits\n
