Description : Function :
Under the supervision of the Clinical Director of Optometry, the Staff Optometrist provides comprehensive quality eye care to a broad range of patients, engages in clinical teaching, and assists the clinical director in clinical operations. The Staff Optometrist also adheres to all clinical operations, including patient care, compliance with regulatory agencies / requirements (e.g. OSHA, DPH, JCAHO), infection control, quality assurance, equipment maintenance, patient complaints, and incident reporting.
We are seeking a Per Diem Optometrist to join our team for regular clinical coverage. This role requires availability at least twice per month for pre-scheduled shifts provided in advance and some flexibility to cover as needed for providers who are out.
Representative Duties :
Provide comprehensive quality eye care
- Provide hands-on care while achieving the highest levels of appropriateness, quality, efficiency, accessibility and responsiveness
- Examine eyes, using observation, instruments and pharmaceutical agents, to determine visual acuity and perception, focus and coordination and to diagnose diseases and other abnormalities such as glaucoma or color blindness
- Diagnose, manage, and treat conditions and diseases of the human eye and visual system
- Examine eyes and visual system, diagnose problems or impairments, prescribe corrective lenses, and provide treatment
- Prescribe therapeutic drugs to treat specific eye conditions
- Maintain knowledge of relevant medications and non-pharmaceutical patient care aides
- Analyze test results and develop a treatment plan
- Educate and counsel patients on contact lens care, visual hygiene, lighting arrangements and safety factors
Engage in clinical teaching
Provide appropriate supervision and teaching time to interns and residents so that patient and intern / resident needs are optimizedParticipate in presenting didactic topics to the internsParticipate in the grading / observation of internsMeet agency participatory expectation
Adhere to all agency and departmental policies and proceduresParticipate in quality assessment and improvement activities as requestedAdhere to the highest principles of patient and client confidentialityAdhere to established safety policies, procedures and precautions; identify potential or actual unsafe situations in the environment and take measures to rectify the situationAttend all required meetings, in-services, and professional trainingsMaintain professional competence necessary to perform job responsibilities; maintain and provide agency with records of continuing education activitiesServe on agency committees and in professional organizations when requestedPerform other related job duties as required
Requirements :
Current unrestricted license to practice optometry in the State of MassachusettsCurrent controlled substance certificateTraining appropriate to practiceExcellent customer care skillsKnowledge of current principles, methods and procedures for the delivery of quality eye care, evaluations, diagnosis and treatmentKnowledge of related accreditation and certification requirementsKnowledge of relevant medications and non-pharmaceutical patient care aidesAbility to work effectively at all levels in a collaborative team environmentPreferred Requirements
