Senior Product Group Manager

The Senior Product Group Manager oversees, leads and provides strategic direction to a team of product management professionals in developing and implementing the Bank's products, services, programs, and projects including features, benefits, and characteristics that meet customer needs. The Senior Product Group Manager is responsible for formulating strategy, policy, and overall direction for the identified product or suite of products portfolio. This role is accountable for building a strong talent pipeline within the team.

Responsibilities include :

  • Providing people management leadership by hiring the best talent, setting goals, developing staff, managing employee performance and compensation decisions, promoting teamwork and handling disciplinary actions, as required.
  • Overseeing and leading a highly complex and diverse product function for an area of significant complexity or scope while growing talent, developing skills and capabilities to achieve career goals, support project / initiative success, and achieve business results.
  • Generally accountable for a significant product management area that typically has enterprise wide impact or accountability.
  • Enterprise or functional expert, requiring broad managerial and deep specialized knowledge at the enterprise, business, regulatory, and industry levels.
  • Leading and managing teams handling mass or niche products / segment suites, with moderate to high levels of size / complexity of the product groups / segments.
  • Providing coaching, mentorship, and guidance to practitioners, business, executives within area of expertise.
  • Managing and overseeing the overall discipline and strategy for the respective areas while aligning to the enterprise best practices.
  • Strategic partner to leadership team on the management of the portfolio and financials, with deep industry, external / internal, enterprise, knowledge, recognizing and anticipating emerging trends.
  • Identifying operational efficiencies and opportunities with other business management / enterprise areas.
  • Facilitating key strategic discussions and providing thought leadership to executive audience (output may include strategic roadmap and / or deliverables / frameworks / short to long term goals, etc.).
  • Setting overall team direction and collaborating with others to execute on common goals.
  • Focus on longer-range planning for functional area.
  • Overseeing product teams and ensuring the simple and efficient delivery of products and services to the customer.
  • Providing vision, leadership, and strategic guidance in developing and implementing Bank's products, services, and programs, including features, benefits, and characteristics.
  • Developing and implementing products / policies and procedures in such a way that it enhances the end-to-end customer experience (including training, enhancement, and irritant reduction) while achieving business objectives.
  • Developing and managing the product development calendar for the team and overseeing the successful and seamless execution of deliverables.
  • Building and maintaining effective relationships with sales distribution, key internal stakeholders, and / or external partners to ensure that customer needs are considered in strategic decisions and in the development of options, solutions, and alternatives.
  • Leading business plans leveraging Acquisition and Segments teams to increase new account growth and track P&L impact.
  • Liaising with partners (i.e., Marketing, Phone Channel, Retail) to understand industry and customer trends; analyzing challenges and identifying areas of opportunity through customer research, focus groups, and external secondary research; facilitating ideation sessions and building necessary business cases for NPD, identifying solutions and building stronger plans for growth.
  • Managing the product development budget of the team; determining the optimal allocation of overall budget to ensure objectives can be achieved or exceeded.
  • Managing the identification of competitive offerings in the market and their strengths and weaknesses.
  • Determining the methodology to quantify market analysis to assess product performance including product lifecycle, quality, technical support, marketing programs, and sales support.
  • Overseeing the creation of product roadmaps to illustrate the vision for the product; planning product solutions that meet the needs of targeted customers.
  • Partnering with marketing and various channels to develop programs to move buyers through the buying process.
  • Directing market research projects and recommending methods for growing existing markets and developing opportunities for customer products and services.
  • Establishing an annual business and expense plan for the product / segment, monitoring results to plan.
  • Implementing and monitoring product / segment performance against objectives, recommending enhancements to ensure a consistent customer, brand experience.
  • Delivering financial results for the product / product suite via operation of all available levers : pricing, margin, volume, etc., creating and delivering business cases to achieve strategic business results (acquisition, retention, customer experience, engagement, and market share).
  • Working closely with key business leaders to develop business plan, ensuring the optimal use of resources and leveraging TD's operating model to maximize efficiency, effectiveness, and scale.
  • Conducting ongoing industry and competitive analysis to obtain market insights and ensure Acquisition Teams are kept informed of matters to be competitive and win in the marketplace.
  • Executing on the annual business plan to deliver results aligned with business strategies.
  • Developing and implementing products to drive profitable product growth and increased market share through strategic partnerships with internal / external stakeholders, as well as industry, and customer insights / foresights expertise.
  • Refining product management strategies through detailed analysis of the P&L, ongoing competitive research, and review of marketing / risk management tactics.
  • Participating and collaborating on initiatives with internal and external service providers (IT, operations, legal, compliance, marketing, etc.) to ensure the product meets TDBG objectives and standards.
  • Ensuring effective product policies and processes are established to support business processes align with risk appetite.
  • Reviewing and approving business and expense plans and tracking success and effectiveness of product development delivery and implementation.
  • Ensuring all products are in compliance and meet all regulatory requirements.
  • Maintaining a culture of risk management and control, supported by effective processes in alignment with risk appetite.
  • Ensuring employees are knowledgeable and assumes responsibility to minimize operational and regulatory risk by complying with the Bank and industry Code of Conduct.

Education & Experience :

  • Undergraduate degree or product management certificate and / or
  • 10+ years relevant experience
  • Previous Product experience required
  • Experience in leading strategy strongly recommended
  • Advanced knowledge of and ability to conduct product research, product analysis and development, forecasting, pricing, competitive intelligence
  • Knowledge of current and emerging competitor and market trends
  • Advanced ability to lead, plan, implement, and evaluate program / project activities to ensure completion of product initiatives
  • Ability to contribute to strategic direction of the product management function and provide advice to senior leadership
  • Ability to forecast initiatives and demand in order to develop annual strategic product plan
  • Skill in mentoring, coaching, and performance management
  • Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form
  • Ability to work collaboratively and build relationships across teams and functions
  • Ability to work successfully as a member of a team and independently
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment in making decisions
  • Ability to analyze, organize, and prioritize work while meeting multiple deadlines
  • Skill in preparing and managing budgets, P&L, and resource allocation
  • Knowledge of and / or skill in using analytical software tools, data analysis methods, and reporting techniques
