Position Overview :
The Scrub Technician is responsible for supporting surgeons and OR staff during surgical procedures by maintaining sterile technique, preparing instruments, and ensuring the operating room is safe, efficient, and fully equipped. This role is essential to creating a smooth surgical flow and delivering exceptional patient care in a fast-paced, high-standard surgical environment.
The ideal candidate has strong clinical knowledge, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to anticipate provider needs during procedures. Experience in plastic surgery or outpatient surgical settings is preferred.
What You’ll Do :
Surgical Support & Clinical Duties
- Assist surgeons during procedures by passing instruments, sponges, and supplies in a safe, efficient manner.
- Anticipate surgeon needs and maintain continuous awareness of procedural flow.
- Prepare and organize sterile fields, ensuring instruments and equipment are properly accounted for and functioning.
- Set up, maintain, and break down operating rooms before and after procedures.
- Assist with patient positioning, draping, prepping, and transferring as needed.
- Handle sharps, specimens, and surgical materials following safety protocols.
Sterile Technique & Safety Compliance
Maintain strict adherence to sterile technique at all times.Follow all infection control, OSHA, HIPAA, and facility safety guidelines.Ensure proper handling, cleaning, and sterilization of instruments and equipment.Monitor and maintain sterility of surgical supplies, trays, and back tables.Equipment & Inventory Management
Ensure surgical instruments and equipment are available, functioning, and properly maintained.Assist with inventory management, including tracking, ordering, and restocking supplies.Communicate equipment malfunctions or supply shortages promptly to leadership.Team Collaboration & Communication
Work closely with surgeons, OR nurses, MAs, and anesthesia staff to ensure seamless surgical operations.Participate in daily huddles, case reviews, and debriefs to support continuous improvement.Communicate clearly and calmly in high-pressure situations.Qualifications & Education
Required
High school diploma or equivalent.Completion of an accredited Surgical Technologist / Scrub Tech program.1–2+ years of experience in an operating room or surgical environment.Strong understanding of sterile technique and surgical instrumentation.Ability to stand for long periods and perform physical tasks associated with OR support.Strong communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills.Knowledge of HIPAA, OSHA, and infection control standards.Preferred
Experience in plastic surgery, dermatologic surgery, or outpatient / ambulatory surgical centers.Experience with sterilization equipment and instrument processing.BLS / CPR certification.Core Competencies
