Valley Electric Association, Inc. (VEA) has an immediate opening for a Telecommunications Technician to work at our headquarters located in Pahrump, Nevada.
Valley Electric Association, Inc., (VEA) is a member-owned electric cooperative based in Pahrump, Nevada, with a certified service area covering more than 6,800 square miles in Nevada and California. VEA presently provides service to over 24,000 services with 2,120 line miles of distribution facilities and 13 substations. VEA is a participating transmission owner and load-serving entity in the California Independent System of Operators Corporation (CAISO).
VEA is the parent company to a host of wholly-owned subsidiaries, including Valley Electric Transmission Association (VETA), and Valley Communication Association (VCA).
The Telecommunications Technician is responsible for providing the specialized technical skillset necessary for supporting carrier grade microwave and SONET / DWDM long-haul fiber transport systems for enterprise, utility, and broadband services. Duties also include supporting two-way radio communications (LMR), door access control, and video surveillance systems.

Responsibilities
The Telecommunications Technician is responsible for providing the specialized technical skillset necessary for supporting carrier grade microwave and SONET / DWDM long-haul fiber transport systems for enterprise, utility, and broadband services. Duties also include supporting two-way radio communications (LMR), door access control, and video surveillance systems.
Education / Experience
Associate degree in electronics or related discipline with a minimum of 4 years of job-related experience, or a combination of education and experience that would satisfy the requirements of this position. Previous working experience with wireless RF and / or fiber optic communications systems and computer networking is desired. Additional experience with terminations of coax, fiber and data cabling and tower climbing experience is preferred.
Job Knowledge : Must possess a moderate understanding of wireless RF and / or fiber optic technology. Must have knowledge of electronics fundamentals and theory. Must have sound knowledge of the proper and safe use of the tools and equipment used in the installation and maintenance of wireless RF and / or fiber optic equipment. Must be willing to attend courses relating to his / her area of work.
