Robert Half Management Resources is recruiting for a Payroll Manager to assist our multi-location automotive client in the West Los Angeles area for an interim engagement lasting approximately 3+ months. This hybrid role presents an excellent opportunity to lead and enhance payroll operations, ensuring efficiency and compliance across the organization. The ideal candidate will be a proactive and detail-oriented professional with extensive experience in payroll compliance, proven leadership capabilities, and expertise in payroll system optimization.
Responsibilities :
- Lead the implementation of audit recommendations to enhance payroll compliance and operational efficiency.
- Assess and refine payroll processes, workflows, and internal controls across multiple locations.
- Establish standardized payroll policies and procedures that align with multi-state regulations.
- Ensure accurate and timely payroll processing and come up to speed with learning dealership-specific pay structures and commission types.
- Train and develop the payroll team to improve overall performance and expertise.
- Collaborate with HR, Accounting, and Operations teams to maintain data consistency and alignment.
- Optimize the use of payroll systems to improve functionality and efficiency.
- Develop and document standard operating procedures (SOPs) to support compliance and audit readiness.
- Provide expert guidance on wage and hour laws, overtime regulations, and industry-specific payroll practices.
- 7–10+ years of progressive experience in payroll management, preferably in multi-location operations.
- Familiarity with multi-state payroll compliance and tax regulations.
- Experience in payroll for automotive dealerships, including commission structures and specialized pay types, is preferred.
- Proficiency in using payroll systems like ADP Workforce Now, with knowledge of reconciliation and integration processes.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to mentor and guide team members effectively.
- Analytical mindset with a focus on process improvement and operational excellence.
- Certification in payroll management or related fields is a plus.
- Knowledge of system implementation and compliance measures is highly desirable.
