About the Department :

The School of Architecture (https : / / arch.gatech.edu / ) at the Georgia Institute of Technology in {Atlanta, Georgia} invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in Architecture. Applicants will be considered at all ranks. Thomas W. Ventulett III Distinguished Chair in Architectural Design. Candidates are expected to demonstrate an exceptional commitment to the teaching and mentoring of students.

Job Summary

The Georgia Institute of Technology's School of Architecture invites applications and / or nominations for the Thomas W. Ventulett III Distinguished Chair in Architectural Design. The chair is made possible by a generous endowment in honor of Georgia Tech alumnus Tom Ventulett, founding partner of TVSDesign in Atlanta. Previous chair holders include Michael Murphy, Debora Mesa, Marc Simmons, Monica Ponce de Leon, Nader Tehrani, and Lars Spuybroek. A successful candidate is a distinguished practitioner with a record of international leadership and excellence in architecture. The Ventulett Chair will teach in the School and develop significant initiatives to advance architectural design, architectural education, and the knowledge base that supports them. Prior teaching experience is desirable but is not required. Of paramount importance is the candidate's record of design work and thought leadership advancing the discipline and the profession.

The Thomas Ventulett Distinguished Chair in Architectural Design offers a unique platform to lead by example, advance critical disciplinary discourse, and explore how design innovation can catalyze progressive social change. The Ventulett Chair embraces the redesign of design practice, foregrounding creative collaboration among diverse stakeholders within an expanding field of interdisciplinary concerns. Through the appointment of the next Ventulett Chair, the School seeks to amplify the inherently collaborative nature of practice and to bolster the role of the architect as an agent of progressive change.

This appointment is a non-tenured Professor of Practice in the School of Architecture. The terms of residency and the length of the appointment, which range from three to five years, are negotiable. Responsibilities include teaching design studios and workshops at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. Salary is commensurate with the candidate's qualifications. In addition to salary, the chair holder will receive an annual endowment revenue to support projects, research, travel, events, publications, constructions, or other needs that advance the goals of the position.

This appointment is scheduled to begin in Fall 2026, with an anticipated start date of August 1.

Required Qualifications

Master of Architecture or Master of Landscape Architecture, or greater.

Student Success Criteria

  • The ability to mentor and assist students interested in pursuing graduate education
  • The ability to design and teach curricula that are responsive to a diverse student body
  • The ability to engage students in experiential learning activities and pedagogy that support student success

Candidates should bring demonstrated expertise and a 10 to 15-year distinguished national / international record of professional practice and / or research with clear impact on professional practice
