Copperhead serves a broad range of government, industry and private clients in need of environmental compliance.
Our multidisciplinary team includes aquatic resource managers, wetland specialists, environmental planners, NEPA specialists, aquatic biologists, avian biologists, malacologists, foresters, fixed-winged aircraft and drone pilots, and SCUBA divers. We are actively recruiting for the role of Senior Wetland Scientist to join our growing family of professional consultants.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Technical
- Advanced understanding of scientific principles and understanding of various implementation techniques as related to area of focus.
- Manage data collection and analysis processes.
- Monitor the maintenance and care of field data, specimens, and samples.
- Organize and lead field work.
- Develop report conclusions. Manage all aspects of deliverables. Edit reports and give feedback to person who wrote it. Submit reports and follow up with clients or reviewing agencies. In depth understanding of the Project needs to ensure reports meet the needs of the client and regulatory requirements.
- Ensure the team is following company and safety standards in the field.
- Takes a lead role in coordinating with multi-disciplined teams.
- Proficient in communicating technical concepts, both verbally and in writing.
- Actively seeks the latest technologies; applies scientific principles for creative solutions for clients.
- Other ad hoc duties as assigned.
Project Management
Develop project scope of work, monitor scope creep, and price additional services for review / approval by client. In depth understanding of the Project needs to ensure scope of work meets the needs of the client and regulatory requirements. Communicates scope and schedule changes to clientsMaintains project schedules, provide updates, and interim reportsSupervises subcontractorsLeads project kick-off meetingsEnsures project deliverables for the team are completed at the expected quality and within budget and schedulePrepares status updates on projects via reports / emails and communicate to leadership and internal clientsPeople Management
Oversees Scientists and Technicians and conduct performance assessmentsAssists with invoicing and responsible for project set up in management systemApproves timesheetLeads initiatives designed to increase efficiency, improve operations, decrease turnaround times, and provide a high quality of customer serviceDemonstrates a desire for lifelong learningTrains newly hired staff and assists with the development of staff through day-to-day interactionsParticipates in formal mentorship programsBusiness Development
Leverages professional network to engage with industry professionals on thought leadershipDevelops detailed proposals and cost estimates in support of the bidding process, working collaboratively with othersAbility to provide solutions and advice to clients for complex projects that require in depth technical and consulting knowledgeResponsible for developing new client businessFinancial Acumen
Monitors timekeeping and invoice schedulingAssists with collection of delinquent accounts as neededFollows up with subcontractors as neededAssists management with monitoring project profitabilityPrepares and tracks budgetsClient Service
Builds relationship capital with clients through project work and networking eventsRequirements :
Experience & Educational Requirements
12+ years of experience in a related field or roleBachelor’s (master’s degree preferred) in a science related field.USFWS and State Wildlife / Plant Permits; discipline specific certifications preferred.Valid Driver's LicenseProficiency with a variety of software including Microsoft Office Suite, Google Earth, Adobe.
