Position Title : Senior SQL Developer – Healthcare Data Conversions
Overview
The Senior SQL Developer will take a lead role in managing data migration projects that support healthcare organizations as they move between electronic health record (EHR) systems. This position is responsible for designing, executing, and refining large-scale data conversion strategies to ensure accuracy, compliance, and reliability throughout the transition process.
In addition to advanced SQL development, this role involves building repeatable frameworks, guiding less experienced developers, and collaborating directly with clients and internal teams to maintain data integrity and regulatory standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Direct all phases of healthcare data conversion projects, from initial planning through implementation, to deliver timely and accurate outcomes.
- Translate technical and business requirements into SQL code and repeatable conversion methodologies.
- Develop, optimize, and maintain SQL scripts, stored procedures, and ETL processes for large healthcare datasets.
- Serve as the main technical contact for client teams during conversion projects, providing expertise and resolving issues.
- Define and enforce data quality standards in line with HIPAA and other healthcare compliance requirements.
- Provide mentorship and oversight to junior developers, including code reviews and training.
- Work closely with project managers, analysts, and technical staff to align deliverables with project objectives.
- Document and improve conversion processes to support scalability and standardization.
- Identify risks early and implement strategies to mitigate potential project issues.
Technical Skills
Advanced knowledge of SQL Server, including query optimization, indexing, and performance tuning.Experience with healthcare data standards such as HL7, FHIR, CCD, and X12.Strong background with ETL processes and data conversion methodologies.Familiarity with Git-based source control systems.Proficiency with tools such as Azure Data Studio or Visual Studio Code.Strong Excel skills for data validation and transformation.Qualifications
Minimum of 7 years of SQL development experience, including at least 3 years in a senior or lead capacity.Demonstrated experience leading full lifecycle EHR / EMR data migrations, including platforms such as Epic, Cerner, Allscripts, NextGen, or eClinicalWorks.In-depth knowledge of healthcare interoperability standards and regulatory compliance requirements.Proven leadership ability, including mentoring and team guidance.Strong problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills.Ability to manage multiple projects in a client-facing environment.Preferred Experience
Cloud-based or hybrid database environments, particularly Azure SQL.Scripting with PowerShell or Python for automation.Experience in consulting or managed services environments.Relevant Microsoft SQL or healthcare IT certifications.
