Electrical Engineer – Substation

Overview :
We are seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer to support substation engineering and consulting services for clients across the U.S. and internationally. This role focuses on protection & control and physical layout design for high-voltage substations (13kV–500kV), ranging from small distribution upgrades to large transmission projects. The position offers opportunities to influence the resiliency, reliability, and economic operation of the electric grid.
Key Responsibilities :
Design & Engineering
- Develop proposals, scopes, conceptual designs, and execution plans.
- Prepare engineering cost estimates, labor forecasts, and schedules.
- Create physical substation designs : yard layouts, grounding, lightning protection, control building arrangements, raceways, and AC / DC auxiliary systems.
- Produce protection and control designs : panel layouts, one-lines, three-lines, schematics, wiring diagrams.
- Perform engineering studies and calculations : grounding, lightning protection, AC / DC load studies.
- Prepare equipment specifications and support procurement and factory acceptance testing.
Coordination & Support
Collaborate with Civil / Structural, Transmission Line, and Network teams.Mentor junior engineers and designers.Interface with clients and external stakeholders.Conduct quality reviews and provide field support during construction.Support business development and marketing efforts.Additional Involvement
May include relay settings, 3D / intelligent design, or participation in technical committees.Qualifications :
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field from an ABET-accredited program, with 3+ years of experience (consulting preferred).OR : Bachelor’s in Engineering Technology + FE exam + 3 years of experience.OR : Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering + 2 years of experience.Strong knowledge of standard engineering techniques and procedures.Proficiency in AutoCAD, MicroStation, and 2D / 3D rendering tools.Excellent communication, problem-solving, and collaboration skills.EIT certification preferred.
