POSITION SUMMARY : Perform the duties required to manufacture vitrified bonded bricks, sulfur fill bricks and stones and make cellulose.

Essential Functions

  • Clean, load and unload tunnel kilns and small and large periodic kilns.
  • Hand stencil and test bricks that are out of range.
  • Load and unload bricks and stones after sulfur impregnation.
  • Tumble bricks to remove sulfur buildup.
  • Fill and maintain sulfur level on brick and stick pots.
  • Sort orders that need to be sulfur filled by cycle and priority status.
  • Load bricks and sticks into oven for pre-heating before filling.
  • Pull material for making of bricks.
  • Weigh precise amounts of grain and bond components for making of bricks.
  • Weigh precise amounts of material for making of bonds and binders.
  • Operate a variety of mixers following precise mixing instructions.
  • Screen mix materials for pressing of bricks.
  • Clean and wash all mixing tools and mix room.
  • Ensure all weight and mix components are accurate.
  • Set up and operate brick press.
  • Ensure brick size and weight are exact to ordered specifications.
  • Clean press thoroughly as needed to prevent contamination.
  • Install die for pressing of bricks and ensure exact tolerances are met.
  • Cut and form materials for top punch and fill per specifications.
  • Weigh components for manufacturing cellulose and mix per exact instructions.
  • Troubleshoot all machinery.
  • Build kiln carts per instructions.
  • Perform other related duties.
  • Be available to carry a pager and be on call on a rotating basis, including weekends and holidays.
  • Perform quality control tests on nitrocellulose adhesive and binder.

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, climb, stoop or crouch, kneel, reach, pull, grasp, talk, or hear.
  • Generally moderate physical effort. The employee is required to lift more than 60 pounds occasionally and / or 25 to 60 pounds frequently and move around large areas or to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects unassisted or with the use of a hand truck or hoist.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include clarity of vision at a distance of 20 inches or less with the ability to judge distance and space relationships along with adjusting the eye to bring objects into sharp focus .
  • POSITION QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

    Education : Job requires the use of high school level mathematics (geometry, algebra) use of complicated charts, tables and formulas. Use precision measuring instruments. Interpretation of data requires advanced skills and knowledge. Equivalent to 1 to 3 years of applied training in a particular or specialized occupation.

    Experience : Requires a minimum of one year up to and including three years to gain sufficient experience to perform the requirements of the position.

  • Ability to read, write and apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written and oral form.
  • Ability to interpret instructions furnished in written or oral form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving standardized situations.
  • Machines, Tools, Equipment and Work Aids which may be representative but not all inclusive of those commonly associated with this position :

    Telephone, copier, fax, personal computer / terminal, common application software; beater burs, top punches, mix bowls, brick die, Bickely cart, forklift.
